Trading Volume for Dark Pools Now Exceeds NYSE Volume

Trading volume for “dark pool” networks during the month of January exceeded the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) volume according to a report from FOX Business Network (FBN) Senior Correspondent Charlie Gasparino. Gasparino says, “The people at the New York Stock Exchange believe this is the first time that, combined, the dark pools have beat the NYSE,” and that, “In January, 900 million shares were traded on an average daily basis for the NYSE, but for the 19 dark pools that are out there, it was 920” million shares.

Excerpts from the report are below.

On January’s stock trading volume:

“The people at the New York Stock Exchange believe this is the first time that, combined, the dark pools have beat the NYSE. They are saying the big board is now trailing all the dark pools in terms of average daily volume that occurred in January. In January, 900 million shares were traded on an average daily basis for the NYSE, but for the 19 dark pools that are out there, it was 920.”
