But in the list of top 10 safest cities in the world compiled by the CEO World Magazine, it’s the Asian cities that rank highly. The magazine analyzed and ranked 338 cities across the globe. The worst five are San Pedro Sula, Honduras; Caracas, Venezuela; Fortaleza, Brazil; Durban, South Africa; and Johannesburg, South Africa. 10- Irvine, California
This master-planned city in Orange County, California, is one of the safest cities on the planet. It scored 82.29 on CEO World Magazine’s safety index. Irvine was named the best-run city in the United States in 2014 by 24/7 Wall Street. Last year, Wallet Hub listed it as the third happiest place to live in the United States.
9- Munich, Germany
Munich is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany. It is also one of the top 10 safest cities in the world. The city is home to numerous architectural attractions, universities, theaters, and museums.
8- Bern, Switzerland
Bern lies around a crook in the Aare river. Switzerland itself is a peaceful and safe country, so you expect every city in the country to be safe. Bern is one of those rare historical cities that have managed to retain their historic charm even centuries later.
7- Tokyo, Japan
Tokyo has consistently ranked among the top 10 safest cities in the world in almost every survey conducted in recent years. It’s surprising how the Japanese capital manages to make people so safe despite being the most densely populated city on the planet. Tokyo is set to host the Olympics and Paralympics in 2020.
6- Quebec City, Canada
Quebec City scored 84.02 points on CEO World Magazine’s safety index. It has the least unemployment rate, and most of the residents have well-paid jobs. Winters in Quebec City could be ridiculously long, but there is no denying the fact that it is one of the safest cities in the world.
5- Basel, Switzerland
Yet another Swiss city made it to the top 10 safest cities with a safety index of 84.14, according to the CEO World Magazine. There is very little serious crime in the city, and the police there are fairly discrete. Basel is close to the country’s borders with France and Germany. It has a population of around 180,000 people.
4- Singapore
Singapore is known for its well-developed infrastructure, governance, cuisine, and culture. It has also built a reputation for personal safety. Their police department is incredibly effective and they have built a strong digital security network.
3- Osaka, Japan
Japan’s food capital has very low rates of crime and terror. The city pays great attention to infrastructure and personal safety. It scored 86.21 points on CEO World’s safety index. Osaka is remarkably safe for a city of its size. Its safety coupled with beautiful architecture and street food make it one of the hottest destinations for tourists.
2- Doha, Qatar
Much of the Middle-East is in turmoil, but Doha is among those Middle-Eastern cities that you can visit without worrying about safety as it has very little crime. Qatar itself is one of the richest and safest countries in the world.
1- Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
According to the CEO World Magazine, Abu Dhabi is the safest city in the world with a score of 88.26. The UAE capital has topped the list of top 10 safest cities in the world for the second consecutive year. It has strict laws and negligible unemployment rates. Petty crime in the city is as rare as it could get, and serious crimes are unheard of.
