While some great games got well-deserved recognition over the course of the night, the announcements and further information of upcoming titles stole the show. Below we’ve listed the most exciting revelations from last night’s event; there’s certainly a lot to get excited about as we wrap up 2017 and head into a brand new year of game development and releases.

Breath of the Wild Expansion Release

In a surprise release, the second Breath of the Wild expansion launched shortly after the Game Awards 2017. This DLC for the game that won “Game of the Year” at the event sees protagonist link riding a motorcycle.

Soul Calibur VI

Soul Calibur VI is currently set for a 2018 release date. As a popular fighting game with a loyal fanbase, this announcement has fans eagerly awaiting this upcoming launch.

Vacation Simulator

The team behind Work Simulator, the wacky VR title that has players doing their best to work in an office environment where all humans have been replaced by robots, has announced a new title: Vacation Simulator. The game will launch for all three VR systems next year.

Upcoming World War Z Game

The game, as expected, is based on the movie rather than the book. As in most cases, many people believe that the book is a better effort. However, it would make sense that the game studio would go for a more easily recognizable adaptation.

From Software Teases Shadows Die Twice

The teaser was incredibly vague, but it still has fans excited for a new release from their favorite developer. The game definitely looks pretty brutal; dying twice may be a bit of an understatement.

Valley of Gods

From the team behind Firewatch, comes a game about exploring tombs in Egypt. Unlike its predecessor, the game features an animated partner that you adventure beside. It’ll be a bit of a wait, as the game is set for a 2019 release.

Bayonetta 1 and 2 Make an Appearance on Switch

In an extremely exciting announcement, it appears as if we could see the first two Bayonetta games released on the Switch on February 16.

Bayonetta 3 Is Being Developed For the Switch

Speaking of Bayonetta, the third title is currently in development for Nintendo’s current gen system. Bayonetta 3 will be exclusive to the switch, and there’s no release date currently. While we may be waiting awhile for the game to launch, it will be well worth the wait for the fans of this incredible franchise.

A Trailer for Death Stranding

As a title from Hideo Kojima, former boss behind the Metal Gear series, Death Stranding certainly looks as if it has its creator’s influence. People in hazmat suits, creepy disintegrating bodies, and a host of other science fiction influences make an appearance in this upcoming horror title. While very little is known about the project, and while it’s not even certain that it will make it to release, the trailer is definitely impressive.

A New Map From Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is an example of a small game making it big, and it has quickly amassed a huge player base. A new desert map has already launched on test servers, and will come to Xbox in 2018. PC gamers are getting the launch much earlier on December 20.

Witchfire

As a new title from the studio that brought you Bulletstorm, Witchfire is heavily influenced by its predecessor. It’s action-packed and you shoot a lot of monsters: a simple, yet incredibly satisfying experience.

A Way Out

During the Game Awards 2017, director Josef Fares was incredibly excited about the co-op prison break game, A Way Out. It’s difficult to blame him, as it definitely looks like an exciting experience from watching the footage played at the event last night.

Other notable announcements include THQ Nordic’s survival title Fade Into Silence hitting steam early access on December 14th, Fortnite: Battle Royale getting a new 50v50 mode, and new gameplay footage from the Payday studio’s shooter GTFO.

The Game Awards 2017 was an exciting event that recognizes the achievements of various studios, and it’s always great to recognize the efforts of hard-working developers. However, at the end of the day, the thing that generates the most hype are these exciting glimpses at the future. 2017 was great for game development with iconic launches such as Breath of the Wild, but it’s looking like 2018 may give this year a run for its money.
