Tesla Motors Inc Stock Pops On Musk’s Mysterious “D”

Updated on

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk tweeted this morning that they’re planning to show off something called “the D and something else” on Oct. 9. Turns out his Twitter followers have a dirty sense of humor, judging from the comments they made.

Some of the comments were so funny Musk had to tweet back at them, thanking the Twitter-verse for making him laugh. Alright, get your mind out of the gutter!

Tesla fans have dirty minds

Here’s the original tweet from Musk:

A couple of hours later, he tweeted this:

So what is “the D”?

Naturally, there was immediate speculation that the D is another electric car model, but that seems rather unlikely. We already know that the Model X will be the next vehicle from Tesla, followed by the Model 3. There’s a chance that it could be a new feature for the Model S and all future Tesla vehicles, as the teaser image appears to show the front of a Model S.

The Wall Street Journal suggests that the D could be a reference to an all-wheel-drive system. It would match up with comments Musk said previously about the system, which he calls “dual motor.” Maybe the other letter he didn’t say is “m.”

The Tesla executive said last month that they weren’t working on any other vehicles than the ones they have already announced. He also said that they would have some kind of major product news coming soon.

D could also stand for “driverless,” or perhaps “driver assist,” which is something they have been working on. Musk probably wouldn’t want to be caught saying they were going to be showing off “d” and “a,” after all. Or maybe he would. His comment’s gone viral with all the dirty people who use Twitter. However, the original tweet makes a reference to “something else,” so “the other letter” could have something to do with whatever that is.

A couple of Twitter users also suggested that the D stands for “diesel,” but that seems unlikely too. Why on Earth would Tesla unveil a diesel vehicle? It doesn’t fit.

So snide remarks aside, we’ll just have to wait until Oct. 9 to find out what Musk is really talking about.
