LOS MOCHIS, MEXICO — Three months after Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman busted out of prison, the drug lord met with actor Sean Penn for a secret interview in the jungle. One that officials say helped Mexican authorities finally catch the world’s most-wanted drug kingpin.

Mexican authorities captured Guzman on Friday after a shootout in the city of Los Mochis after six months on the run.

In October, El Chapo secretly met with Penn with the help of Mexican soap opera star Kate del Castillo.

In an article by Penn published in Rolling Stone on Saturday, Guzman bragged to the actor, saying he “supplies more heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana than anybody else in the world.”

Mexican officials say the Penn meeting helped them track Guzman, which eventually led to the action movie-style shootout in Los Mochis.

Guzman is now back in Altiplano, the “maximum-security” prison where he first escaped from, possibly to await extradition to the U.S.
