PUBG Mobile To Get Resident Evil 2 Crossover, Teaser Out

Updated on

In an attempt to counter the rising popularity of Fortnite, PUBG Corp has partnered with Capcom. The partnership between the two popular gaming brands will result in an Resident Evil 2 crossover event in PUBG Mobile.

Resident Evil 2 crossover event – what to expect?

The Japanese Resident Evil Twitter account confirmed the news of the Resident Evil 2 crossover event. It also released a brief teaser.

“PUBG MOBILE × Resident Evil RE: 2 collaboration is decided!” the translated tweet reads. “What kind of innovative play can be produced by combining the world’s most popular mobile game and survival horror’s monument, two super IPs?”

Other than this, there are no other details of this crossover event. Even the teaser reveals no hints on what the event has in store for the players. The trailer shows footage from Resident Evil 2.

Despite the lack of details, it wouldn’t be wrong to assume a zombies mode or a related LTM (limited time mode) in the PUBG Mobile. Considering the limited footage in the trailer, there are also chances that the game might just get the skins from the Resident Evil franchise.

As of now, it is not known when the Resident Evil 2 crossover event will start, but we may not have to wait long. In a tweet, PUBG Corp said: “Something is coming very soon.” Possibly, the event could debut the same day that Resident Evil 2 is set to release on the PC and console, i.e., on January 25, 2019.

Not the first time

For now, the Resident Evil 2 crossover event looks exclusive to PUBG Mobile. But, this is not the first time PUBG Mobile has gotten an exclusive crossover. A few months back, PUBG Corp gave the game an event called Mission: Impossible — Fallout. The event was inspired by the Tom Cruise action movie series.

And, recently the game introduced a Suicide Squad mash-up with new skins for the Xbox and PC users. Both of these events introduced themed challenges, new skins, special in-game rewards and more. Similarly, rival Fortnite had a partnership with Marvel Universe to introduce Avengers: Infinity Wars content and characters in the game.

Resident Evil 2 could help attract more players to PUBG Mobile, which has won the award for the best show at this year’s Game Critics Awards. PUBG Mobile is a super popular game enjoyed by millions. In May, the game had 10 million active daily users (excluding China).

The game has been developed for PUBG Corp by Tencent. And lately, it has been trying to advance separately from the PC version. For instance, the game got a night mode about a month ago, something that is still absent on the PC version.

The crossover event will also up the hype for the Resident Evil 2, a remake of the classic zombie game which debuted in 1998. In the game, police officer Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield attempt to escape Raccoon City, which is infected by zombies.

It will not be the first time we will see zombies in the battle royale. Recently, Call of Duty: Black Ops came up with the Blackout mode, while Fortnite also came up with a similar-themed Halloween event.

PUBG Mobile – The best game

PUBG Mobile has topped Google’s list for the Best Game and Fan Favorite Game for 2018.  It is the mobile version of the “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds,” a PC game that has inspired other battle royale games like Fortnite, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Battlefield V and many more.

According to the research firm SensorTower, PUBG Mobile has been downloaded over 240 million times, and has earned about $113 million through micro transactions.

Fortnite is more popular than PUBG overall, but the former is not downloadable from the Play Store. Android users had to download the game directly from Fortnite’s website. This is the major reason why PUBG Mobile topped the list on the Play Store.

Fortnite is also not available in China due to Chinese government policies. It must be noted that China is the biggest video gaming market. Both PUBG and PUBG Mobile are published by Tencent in China, before the new Chinese regulations came in. The game has already been downloaded by tens of millions of users in China. However, the country does not allow the game to monetize via in-game purchases.
