Sony PS4 Slim Gold Almost Confirmed, Could Come Next Week

Updated on

The PS4 Slim Gold edition will apparently be launched the week of June 11, according to a Twitter user Wario64. They somehow managed to get hold of a Target ad for the week of June 11, which shows the yet-to-be-announced console with model that’s tagged as “limited.” The console is priced at around $250, if the ad is to be believed, notes Gamespot.

PS4 Slim Gold edition is surely coming

Though Sony has yet to confirm this new version, several ads about it have been reported, confirming that the console is surely coming. Two separate Reddit threads suggest that others have seen the PS4 Gold on Target’s inventory system and Walmart’s shelves.

Reddit user Sliye, confirmed, “I work at Target and it looks like the PS4 gold is coming June 9. [It] shows up on our equipment.”

Despite the confirmation, it remains to be seen whether Sony will keep the new version limited to the United States or expand its reach. There has been a number of instances in which the company has made available a different version of the PS4 in different territories or brought it to some geographies later than to others.

At present, the PS4 is available in glacier white and matte black, but in the United States, the white one is available only in a Walmart exclusive Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare bundle. Earlier, the Japanese company offered a gold original PS4 in the United States through a competition with fast food chain Taco Bell, notes Gamespot.

The Target ad for next week also highlights other bargains that will be available to buyers next week. It shows the launch of ARMS for the Nintendo Switch, a free $10 gift card for buyers of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch, and a 20-count Frito lay chip multi-pack.

How can Sony make the PS4 Slim Gold more appealing?

The PS4 Slim Gold version is expected to have similar specifications to those of the regular PlayStation 4 but be slimmer. The console is expected to come with a DualShock 4 controller. The PS4 Slim Gold could fuel Sony’s sales numbers, but much depends on the games that will be launched at the E3 press conference. Games like God of War and Spider Man and some other surprises could be launched as well.

Last year, the Japanese company introduced the PlayStation 4 Slim with rounded edges and a matte finish on the upper side rather than a two-tone finish. Compared to the PS4, it is 40% smaller, and in April, Sony stated that it would upgrade the slim model to 1 TB of storage without increasing the price. The PS4 Pro was released in November 2016, and it packs more power supporting 4K resolution and various other graphics alternatives through the additional performance.

Additionally, there are rumors of Sony working on the PlayStation 5 to compete with Microsoft’s Xbox Project Scorpio. According to Macquarie Capital Securities analyst Damian Thong, the PlayStation 5 will be launched in the second half of 2018. There is a valid reason to believe Thong. In the past, the analyst made precise forecasts about the Slim and Pro versions.
