Sands Capital Management LLC 13F is out detailing the firms latest new buys, additions, reductions, and sold-out stocks as of September 30. Sands Capital Management is a growth concentrated investment firm, fully owned, by its 87 members of staff, with an investment team of 31 members. Sands Capital Management was founded in 1992 in Virginia and has since grown to the tune of 24.3 billion worth of assets under management.

Sands Capital Management Portfolio

Sands Capital Management portfolio is dominated by the amount invested in technology and Internet based companies. The firm’s top ten holdings account for more than 58% of the overall portfolio, with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) holding nearly 10% of the portfolio. The iPhone maker is followed slightly below by Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN), with the internet store titan, representing 7.84% of the overall portfolio.

Three other Internet based companies represent stakes that are just below Amazon.com’s holding, with the search engine giant Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) coming third with 7.71% while Visa Inc (NYSE:V), the payments technology company accounting for 7.61%. The cloud computing and social enterprise company, Salesforce.com, wraps up the top five holdings for Sands Capital Management with 6.61% of the portfolio.

There was only one new purchase for Sands Capital Management during the last quarter. The firm bought 6,800 iShares Russell 1000 Growth Index (ETF) (NYSEARCA:IWF) shares valued at $453,560, representing less than 0.01% of the overall portfolio.

Sands Capital Management Q3 Top Sold-out Stocks

Sands Capital Management sold-out two stakes during the quarter, including a clear-out sale of 2,400,695 shares of, New Oriental Education & Tech Grp (NYSE:EDU) representing 0.27% change in the portfolio, and 3,947,464 shares of, Internet subscription services for TV shows and movies company, Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX), for 1.23% change in portfolio.

Major Additions

The firm acquired additional 5,462,493 shares of social networking giant Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), increasing the portfolio representation to 1.52%, down from 1.64% in Q2, due to the social media network company’s stock price plunge.

Sands Capital Management also added 3,327,080 shares of integrated resort properties and casinos operator Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE:LVS), which now represents 3.17% up from 2.63% of the portfolio in Q2. The firm also added 2,760,930 shares to drug manufacturing company Allergan, Inc. (NYSE:AGN)’s counter, to increase the portfolio representation from 3.02% to 3.75% during the quarter.

Major Reductions

Sands Capital Management reduced its stake in the Cincinnati-based biotechnology company, Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:ALXN) by 19% and slashed 37% of its stakes in a software company, 3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD), and another biotechnology company, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:REGN).
