Samsung Galaxy S11 May Feature Smaller Punch-Hole Design

Updated on

The Galaxy S10 line-up only just arrived, but rumors about its predecessor are already starting to swirl. A new rumor about the Galaxy S11 design suggests the phone could have an even higher screen-to-body ratio than the S10, thanks to a smaller punch-hole.

Galaxy S11 design rumors

We heard a while back that Samsung is working on an under-display selfie camera for the ultimate purpose of a truly full-screen phone. The Chinese-language news outlet Sina now reports that this screen won’t be ready for the Galaxy S11. That doesn’t mean the Galaxy S11 design won’t move further along on the path toward a full-screen phone though.

Sina doesn’t give any sources for its claims, but it said the Galaxy S11 design will feature a smaller aperture on the front-facing camera, and it will be as wide as the status bar. The Chinese news outlet also reports that Samsung is working on a new 5-nanometer chip which is expected to start shipping in 2020. The Galaxy S11 could be the first mobile phone to have this chip.

It’s still very early to be reporting any rumors about the S11 at all, so everything should be taken with a grain of salt. Trusted Twitter tipster Ice Universe tweeted earlier this week that the S11 is code-named Picasso internally, so there will likely be more rumors in the coming months. We’ve also heard that the Galaxy S11 design may feature a massive 64-megapixel camera.

Other Samsung rumors

For now, the Samsung rumor mill is largely focused on the Note 10, which is expected to be released in August or September. We’ve started to see benchmark listings for the Galaxy Note 10 and 10 Pro, and we’ve heard that the Pro model may sport a 19:9 aspect ratio.

Other rumors about the Note 10 suggest it could have a much more powerful charger and possibly the highest resolution of any mobile phone in the industry. Some have suggested that the 64-megapixel camera could actually debut in the Note 10 this year before it appears in the S11 next year. Samsung did say in a blog post that it has launched a 64-megapixel ISOCELL Bright G1 sensor, so it does have the technology to do that. The only question now is whether the tech was ready early enough to actually make it into the Note 10. If not, then it’s possible the sensor will indeed end up in the Galaxy S11 design next year.
