When Samsung releases the Galaxy Note 4, it will undoubtedly be an improvement over the Note 3. However, it’s anyone’s guess how much of an improvement it will be. Will Samsung add enough new features to convince users to upgrade this year?
Expectations for the Galaxy Note 4
It’s generally expected that the Galaxy Note 4 will be unveiled in September, possibly at the IFA show. That would put it head to head with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s rumored 5.5-inch iPhone 6 phablet, assuming it does make an appearance.
If Apple really does deliver a 5.5-inch iPhone in September, then it could indeed pose a real threat to the Galaxy Note 4. The Note 3 sports a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display. The resolution is 1,080 by 1,920. It’s generally expected that the Note 4 will also have a 5.7-inch display but feature a greatly improved resolution of 2,560 by 1,440, which would be a 2K display. The Note 3 has a pixel density of 386 pixels per square inch, while the Note 4 is expected to have over 500.
It’s expected that the Galaxy Note 4 will have a 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization. There have also been reports that the handset will be 15% more efficient than the Note 3 and possibly be one of the thinnest smartphones made so far. In addition, the Note 4 could have 4 GB of RAM, a small improvement from the Note 3’s 3 GB of RAM, and a longer battery life.
Possibilities for the Galaxy Note 4
For some smartphone buyers, improving those specs won’t be enough. However, if any of these other speculations are true, some users may be convinced to buy the Galaxy Note 4 this year.
For example, some have suggested that the phablet will have a flexible display. Others have said that Samsung could include an iris scanner in the Note 4. The company’s management did confirm earlier this year that they are working on an iris scanner. The big question is when it will be ready for inclusion in a smartphone.
Other speculated features include a UV sensor; Aqua Capture, which would allow users to take photos and videos underwater; and super speed boosts through the rumored Multi Network for Booster, which would utilize Wi-Fi and LTE for temporary speediness.
