Research In Motion Ltd (BBRY) To Discuss BB10 Performance

BlackBerry Z10 Details to be Released

The sale of the Z10 has been impressive in the United Kingdom and Canada this year. On Friday, the company will reveal information about the first full quarter of Z10 shipments in the United States.

Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) will not provide any information about the BlackBerry Q10 in the United States, as the device was just made available to the customers earlier this month. For the quarter, it is estimated that the Canadian firm has shipped 5 million older models of BlackBerry.

Lack of Information from BBRY Fueling Rumors

Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) has not given any insight into the financial performance of its phones, and the quarterly shipment forecasts of the new phone globally, giving space to rumors like total shipments of 2.75 million to 5 million. The estimates about the total shipments cannot be accurate, and they vary because the company has launched the devices worldwide.

Market Share Falling

According to Kantar World panel ComTech, Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB)’s U.S. smartphone sales, from February to April, slid from 5 percent in the previous year to 1 percent this year. Apple iPhone and Android phones garnered 41 percent and 51 percent respectively.

Quarterly revenue for Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) is expected to come in at $3.3 billion and a profit of 5 cents per share. In the previous fiscal period, an operating loss was recorded as sales declined 33 percent to $2.8 billion after the phonemaker could not launch its new models in time.

Turnaround Efforts by BBRY

It is almost certain that sales of Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) will not be able to touch the figures achieved by competitors Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung, but the shipments number will be enough to induce confidence in the turnaround plans of chief executive Thorsten Heins..

Shares of RIM rebounded 50 percent this year from the lows of last year. Shares declined last year due to interruptions in the launch of new models, raising concerns about the survival of the company.

Thorsten Heins was appointed chief executive in January 2012, and since then has focused on launching new BlackBerry models, and BlackBerry 10, the long awaited new operating system of the company. The new models running on OS10, Z10 and Q10 were launched this year.

Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) launcheda  mid-range Blackberry Q5 in Canada this year and it is following the strategy of generating revenue from software and services rather than hardware sales. BlackBerry also launched Secure Work Space, which will allow users to manage Apple or Android devices through Rim’s BlackBerry enterprise services.
