Check Your Play Store Now: Google Is Giving Up To $5 In Free Credits

Updated on

Google is giving some early New Year gifts to Android users in the form of free Play Store credit, but it’s not available to all Android users.

Who’s getting the free Play Store credit?

Google is giving away a free Play Store credit worth anywhere from $2 to $5, according to user reports. Google’s gift appears to be totally random, so make sure to check your Play Store account to see if you have received any free Play Store credit. The credit can be used to buy an app or games on the Play Store, but not for subscriptions or in-app purchases.

To check for the free Play Store credit, open the Play Store and scroll down. If you are among the few selected users to get the free credit, you will see a banner image telling you so. If you scroll down to the bottom but do not see any such banner, then you haven’t received any free credit.

Google did not announce that it was handing out free credit, so it’s hard to tell what this promotion might be about. Some reports suggest the credit is only for Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL owners in the United States, but many Pixel 3 owners have reported not getting any such credit, and some non-Pixel owners have reported getting the free Play Store credit.

Thus, very little can be said with surety for now, but one thing that can be said with surety is that all the users who reported getting free credit are from the U.S. Based on user reports, Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL users have until Nov. 30, 2018 to spend the credit, while non-Pixel users have until November 2020 to use it. Pixel owners are reporting getting $2 in free credit.

Many are connecting this free Play Store credit to the fact that Pixel 3 buyers didn’t receive as much free credit as a pre-order gift as Pixel buyers have received in previous years. Pixel 3 buyers received $50 in Google Store credit and a six-month free trial of YouTube Music Premium. It is believed that Google is now compensating them with a few more dollars of free Play Store credit.

Other easy ways to earn free credit

Users who want free Play Store credit but are not among the lucky ones should not be disappointed as there are other ways to get free credit for the Play Store. However, these methods require you to devote some time to get the free credit.

The easiest way to earn free Play Store credit is via the Google Opinion Rewards app, which comes pre-installed on many Android devices. If your phone does not have this app, you can download it from the Play Store. Once you sign up for the app, you will be sent surveys, and once you complete them, you get the credit. Although the earnings from these surveys are small, like about 25 cents each on average, the questions are simple, and there are only three to 10 questions in each survey.

Some long surveys are also included, and they typically pay $1 on average.  The credits instantly show in your Google Play account, and you can redeem them in the Play Store. Another benefit of Google Opinion Rewards is that unlike other options to get free credit, you don’t have to transfer gift cards or redeem any codes.

Swagbucks is the next best option to earn Google Play credits (and other rewards as well). You will have to download the Swagbucks app, and you can earn rewards by taking surveys, playing online games, referring your friends, watching sponsored videos, learning about new products, shopping online and more. Another advantage of Swagbucks is that you can use it from your desktop or laptop as well. It offers several ways to cash out. Swagbucks sends offers to your email, so make sure you always check your inbox.

InstaGC is another good option to earn Play Store credit. Like Swagbucks, you can earn points for taking surveys, watching videos, shopping online and more. The service gives 10 points for signing up. On InstaGC, 100 points are worth $1 in gift cards. Google Play gift cards are available in $10, $15, and $25 denomination, meaning you will need to 1,000, 1,500 and 2,500 points, respectively, to earn a card.
