Nokia Lumia Cyan Update For Existing Devices Coming This Month [REPORT]

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) is working to update its existing Windows Phone 8 devices to 8.1 under its Lumia Cyan branding, adding some additional features to the smartphones. The update will be completed in late June or early July on the existing devices such as Lumia 1020 and 1520, as well as Lumia 920, 620 and 520.

After updating all the existing Lumia phones, Nokia will start an over-the-air roll-out which will be somewhere around the third week of July.

An image showed by @evleaks reflected that the updates will be released in the Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemberg region first before North America, but there are no details regarding account carriers.

Features that are expected to arrive on Nokia phones after the update are enhanced photo editing tools like the camera roll and the Creative Studio as well as an improved Nokia Storyteller app for sharing stories like video slideshows on social networks. Other features are SensorCore low-power motion sensor with Bing Health and Fitness apps.

Windows 8.1 phone preview available

The Windows 8.1 update will include an Action Center, improved calendar, start screen enhancements among other features. The summer update of the phone is primarily for the Benelux region, whereas for other regions update could come later. There will not be much difference in the timing because previously, also, the company has scheduled its update rollout all over the geography in a timely manner.

Cortana is one of the most talked-about features in the upcoming Windows 8.1 update. It is virtual private assistant much like Google Now and iOS Siri.

Windows has made its 8.1 phone update preview available for download, and it includes an update for increased battery life. Anyone can download the new update preview by going to settings, then phone update and then check for updates.  The update is about 21 MB in size.

Separately, Nokia announced the completion of the acquisition of the Australian company Mesaplexx Pty Limited. The acquisition will enhance the Finnish firms radio capabilities in the networks business.
