Q2 performance

For the second quarter, Nokia posted an operating loss of €115 million or $151 million from revenues of €5.695 billion or $7.46 billion. The numbers were marginally below the analysts’ estimate. The smartphone maker shipped 7.4 million Lumia Windows Phones compared to 5.6 million in the first quarter. The shipments were roughly in line with the company guidance. In the second quarter, the Finnish firm sold 53.7 million feature phones compared to 55.8 million in the first quarter and 73.5 million in the second quarter last year.

Lumia sales impressive

As per a report, Noki, after performing badly for several months, has sold an impressive number of Lumia smartphones in the last quarter. The Finnish phonemaker has sold almost double the units of Lumia phones compared to the previous year sales number. Total units sold came in at 8 million units. When compared with rivals like Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) who sold almost 9 million phones in a week, the numbers of Nokia may be seen as low, but nevertheless, Nokia is gaining some momentum in a tough market.

Nokia unveils its first phablet

Earlier this week Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) held a Nokia World event in Abu Dhabi where it showcased the Nokia Lumia 1520. The Lumia 1520 is a lightweight phone with a 1080 pixel display, 20 megapixel camera and quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor.

Nokia and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) have joined in a phablet project for the first time. Lumia 1520 will be the first device to carry Microsoft’s updated Windows Phone OS, which is supported with a three column interface for bigger phones and some more features. For the first time, Lumia 1520 is mechanized by quad core CPU.

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) has added to its kitty a lightweight, slimmer looking phablet with Lumia 1520. The phone, with its enthralling width of 8.6 millimeters, has left behind the wider phone styles such as Lumia 920 and 820.
