Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) CEO, Stephen Elop, has made it clear that Nokia’s strength lies in its unique ability to differentiate. While addressing a gathering of journalists at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, the executive advanced a strong case for Nokia.

Unlike most companies which went for the widely popular Android, Elop noted that Nokia chose Windows Phone. The 49 year old executive was emphatic on Nokia’s unique angle, rooting for the idea that Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) brings something different to the table.

With regard to the Lumia 920, Nokia’s flagship model, Elop was particularly enthusiastic. He lauded the device for its bold design, citing that it had numerous differentiating features. Some of the differentiating features that Elop mentioned include the camera stabilization springs, Nokia Streaming Music Service, wireless charging and the high-end touch technology which responds to touch by gloves or nails. Elop is not alone in lauding the Lumia’s camera. As we had earlier reported, U.K research company YouGov, in a research report, showed that Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) ranked first among other handset makers in camera quality. The report also argued that the Lumia line was the key driving force behind Nokia’s recovery.

While discussing wearable technology, Elop exhibited a rather enthusiastic tone all through. Nonetheless, he made it clear that he would not disclose information as to whether or not the company was pursuing the trend.

Emerging markets continue to be an area of emphasis

Elop also made a distant mention of emerging tech markets, noting that Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) would have to track these markets if at all it had any prospects in the wearable technology segment. This mention of emerging markets exclaimed the company’s frenzied efforts in the budget smartphone market. As we have reported recurrently, Nokia is doing a lot to strengthen its presence in emerging markets with the Asha line. It recently unveiled the Asha 310, a $102 smartphone expected to dominate emerging markets.
