You own a carrier-locked iPhone and now you want to use it with another carrier. The official way is to request the original carrier to unlock iPhone, which usually takes only a few days to get done. However, carriers agree to unlock devices only if you meet specific criteria such as completing any contracts or paying off the device in full. Fortunately, gadget geeks have discovered a workaround to unlock iPhone without requesting the carrier. It requires an R-SIM and you have to change the ICCID.
It allows you to use your iPhone with any GSM network of your choice. You’ll effectively be tricking the iPhone into thinking that it’s still using the SIM card given by the carrier even though you would change the SIM. The method relies on an iOS vulnerability, which Apple could patch in the future. It works with all iPhones including the iPhone XS, XR, and XS Max, and supports iOS 11.4.1 as well as iOS 12.
Step-by-step guide to unlock iPhone using R-SIM and ICCID trick
Once you unlock iPhone using the below method, it will continue to work even after you have pulled out the R-SIM using any network of your choice. Here’s how you can do it:
Step-1: Buy the R-SIM from Chytah
Step-2: Turn off Find My iPhone by going to Settings > iCloud > Find My iPhone. You might be prompted to enter your Apple ID password before being able to disable it
Step-3: Pull out the SIM card tray and insert the R-SIM into it. Make sure the R-SIM is placed in the right orientation
Step-4: Put the unsupported SIM on top of the R-SIM chip and insert the SIM tray into the iPhone
Step-5: Launch the Phone app on your device and type *5005*7672*99# and hit the call button
Step-6: Now you’ll be taken to the R-SIM information page. Scroll down to the bottom and hit the ‘Edit ICCID’ option
Step-7: Enter this 20-digit ICCID code: 8901-4104-2778-0604-3133 and hit send. In case this ICCID code doesn’t work for you for some reason, browse Twitter to look for any ICCID that might work for you.
Step-8: Restart the device and follow the setup process.
Step-9: Once you are on the home screen, you’ll be able to use the new SIM on your device. Remove the R-SIM and use the previously unsupported SIM
Now you can use the new SIM to make phone calls, send messages, and use the Internet. If you want to unlock iPhone, this method is worth a try. However, it’s worth pointing out that the method isn’t permanent. You can perform an over-the-air update without any issues, but a hard reboot or reset will put it back in the carrier-locked condition.
