WASHINGTON, DC — The Democratic National Committee rejected the idea this week of a presidential debate focused on climate change and the impending climate crisis.

In reaction to the announcement, Pulin Modi, MoveOn Political Action Platform Director, issued the following statement:

“We are inspired by the US Youth Climate Strike students who took the lead and directly engaged with candidates on their petition for a climate debate. More than 50,000 people signed their MoveOn petition, and these students aren’t giving up. We will be there to support insightful, urgent, youth-led organizing efforts. The DNC’s decision to reject an environmental debate, even after a number of prominent 2020 Democratic candidates committed to joining is so deeply disappointing. 2020 Democratic voters, and our planet, deserve better.”

Q1 hedge fund letters, conference, scoops etc

US Youth Climate Strike bluntly tweeted their response directly to DNC Chair Tom Perez: “Wrong answer.”

The DNC’s announcement comes after Secretary Julián Castro, Sen. Kirstin Gillibrand, Sen. Mike Gravel, Gov. Jay Inslee, Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rep. Tim Ryan, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and Andrew Yang agreed to participate in a debate focused on climate change.

More than 50,000 people signed onto the youth-led petition calling for the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates to commit to a debate or forum focused exclusively on climate change, and the campaigners behind the effort have earned the support of high-profile political leaders like former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Al Gore.

MoveOn, which is hosting the Youth Climate Strike petition, released a video in April featuring the young advocates elaborating on why their call to presidential candidates and the DNC is so important.
