How You Can Mirror iPhone To Samsung Smart TV

Updated on

AirBeamTV has released an application which allows you to mirror your iOS 11-supported device to a Samsung Smart TV, similarly to AirMirror. Here’s how to mirror iPhone to a Samsung Smart TV.

Last year, AirBeamTV enabled mirroring on a Samsung TV from a Mac screen by engineering a Mac app. The application didn’t require you to own an Apple TV in order to do so, which was great for users who wanted to have one but couldn’t or weren’t willing to hand over the cash to buy one. Now, one year later, AirBeamTV has built an app to enable the same thing on iOS 11-supported devices like the iPhone and iPad. So how does this mirroring app work?

The application will mirror the screen and audio of your iPhone or iPad on any Samsung Smart TV that was released in 2012 or later. More importantly, the application doesn’t require anything other than an iPhone or iPad running on iOS 11 and a Samsung smart TV.

On the other hand, AirPlay, Apple’s own mirroring application, requires an Apple TV in order for content from your iPhone to be mirrored onto the TV screen. AirBeamTV used ReplayKit in iOS 11 in order to enable screen mirroring to a Samsung Smart TV without an Apple TV.

“At WWDC 2017, Apple announced that they have extended the functionality of the ReplayKit framework,” explained Video Technology Co-founder and Director Demid Borodin in a press release. “This extended functionality opened the door for us to bring our popular Mirror for Samsung TV app also to iOS. Before iOS 11, we only supported macOS, now everybody with a modern iPhone and iPad can directly mirror to his Samsung TV.”

Regardless of how amazing this application is, there are still drawbacks that make it a little less attractive to users. For example, if you own an older iPhone or iPad, it will require more power to mirror iPhone to a Samsung TV. Thus, only users who own an iPhone 6s or newer or an iPad Pro or iPads of the fifth generationor later can use the app. The devices must be running the iOS 11 operating system to make mirroring to a Samsung smart TV possible.

Another drawback of the app is that there is a delay before the video is streamed from the iOS device onto the Samsung smart TV. With this in mind, gamers will be disappointed because two to three seconds of lag is too much for them to handle. DRM content (Such as Netflix or Hulu) and Safari are also excluded because they don’t send audio to the TV.
