Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) just announced their new chief executive officer on Tuesday morning. Satya Nadella is about to take the reigns for the company and will face his biggest challenge yet: the mobile market.
Microsoft expecting big changes
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) started in the personal computer industry when it was most successful. Now the market is changing and mobile devices are in strong demand. Unfortunately, Microsoft hasn’t been able to keep up with this shift and it’s caused the company to decrease significantly. Now that Nadella is taking over Steve Ballmer’s position as CEO for Microsoft, it’s safe to say we can expect some big changes ahead.
Nadella said the following in a statement today, “I couldn’t be more honored to have been chosen to lead the company. The opportunity ahead for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is vast, but to seize it, we must focus clearly, move faster and continue to transform.”
Nadella’s job description
His primary job will be to make more innovative products and speed up the release of such products. Compared to Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) or Samsung, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has been lagging. One of Nadella’s new jobs is to integrate Nokia into more Microsoft products. He will be working closely with Microsoft’s Bill Gates as a technology adviser. Although Gates is set to be replaced as chairman by John Thompson, he and Ballmer will still remain on Microsoft’s board.
Gates is excited to promote Nadella as the new CEO. He explained, “During this time of transformation, there is no better person to lead Microsoft than Satya Nadella. His vision for how technology will be used and experienced around the world is exactly what Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) needs as the company enters its next chapter of expanded product innovation and growth.”
Although Nadella has been with the company for a long time, fans worry he was a safe pick. Only time will tell if Nadella was the best choice.
