A new poll on technology brands shows us a few things we already know, like the fact that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Android are very cool. One thing this poll has shown is that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is cooler than it used to be.
The poll results come from Reuters/Ipsos. There were about 853 respondents between the age of 18 and 29 in the poll and about half of them agree that Microsoft has grown in appeal. What’s even more interesting is that Microsoft has beaten both Twitter (47%) and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) (42%) in the coolness factor.
Microsoft’s gain in popularity with the young crowd may be attributed to the new Surface tablet. This cool tablet features the same colorful tile interface displayed on the Windows Phone. The Xbox game console and entertainment system most likely helped revive the brand in a big way.
One media arts student from University of South Carolina, Josh Johnson, explained the appeal behind Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s new products, “
It’s more customizable, and not as rigid as an Apple phone, where you have to buy all the products from Apple,” Johnson said. “If you want a ringtone, you don’t have to pay iTunes. I know Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is the cool, hip brand right now, but if Microsoft keeps coming out with new tech I’m sure it’ll be back soon.”
Fortunately for Apple, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s rise in popularity has no effect on their cool factor. 60 percent of the survey respondents think Apple is cooler now than they were in the past. Of course, Android scored a higher number as 70% of the survey respondents think Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s rival is cooler.
This survey poll results show what’s popular with the young crowd and although that’s significant, the poll is still missing some key markets with input from the older crowd, namely those between he ages of 30 to 40.
The accuracy of this poll has a credibility interval of 3.8 percent.
