Metal Gear Survive Coming To Xbox And PS4 In February 2018

Updated on

Metal Gear Survive will be released in North America on February 20, 2018 for the Xbox and PS4, Konami confirmed on Wednesday. The Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain spin-off will be released in Europe two days later.

Survival Pack for pre-orders

All the pre-orders would be eligible for the Survival Pack, which includes four gold-plated weapons – survival spear, survival machete, sledgehammer and bat. Other than that, Survival Pack comes loaded with four survival scarves (blue, pink, silver and green), two gestures and kabuki face paint. The Survival Pack will also come loaded with the Mother Base nameplate and the Boxman accessory.

Initially, the game was scheduled to release in 2017, but at E3, Konami revealed that the release had been postponed to 2018 as more time was needed to perfect the game. Also, as of now, there is no mention of the PC version of the Metal Gear Survive. But, a spokesperson told PC Gamer that an announcement of the PC version will be made soon.

Metal Gear Survive is a bit different from the other Metal Gear games, and picks up from where Ground Zeroes ends, creating a binding and interesting diversion from the core gameplay. The soldiers here are elevated to another dimension. The sole purpose is to survive against the zombie-like things with crystals for heads. The game is supposed to be played in a cooperative multiplayer environment.

Metal Gear Survive – success doubted

Konami never had second thoughts about launching the spin-off version of the game. However, to match the success of Metal Gear is an uphill task. One of the reasons why success of the spin off is a little doubtful is that the game does not have the involvement of long-time series director Hideo Kojima, who is now working on some project for Sony’s PS4.

Also, the initial reaction during the Tokyo Game Show for the past couple of years has not been very encouraging, notes Comicbook. In fact, core Metal Gear fans hate the Survive as they believe the series is moving in a direction for which Metal Gear games are not known for.

Separately, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is one of the free games available to Playstation Plus subscribers in October. The plot of Phantom Pain is woven around a man named Snake, who comes to his senses after nine years of being in a coma. Snake is now determined to avenge the death of the mercenary army, which he led. As Snake is led by his own burning desire to take revenge, he discovers a malicious plot towards toppling the global balance of power, and giving nuclear weapons to almost anyone who can afford it. The player, who dons the character of Snake, is a one-man army against a nuclear-armed fanatic and his evil army.

The game offers a visual treat such as the deserts of Afghanistan and the Angola-Zaire border filled with soldiers and weapons of war. Snake has to penetrate the force with strategy and stealth rather than raining weapons. Throughout the way, Snake would be equipped with lethal and non-lethal weapons.
