Mayer Takes To Twitter Encouraging Yahoo Home Page Change

Updated on

Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) CEO, Marissa Mayer, has taken to Twitter re-tweeting users who are willing to change their home pages to Yahoo. Okay, she’s kind of cute, but a wholesale change of the first thing you see when you turn on your computer, for a tweet? Well, it seems to be working.

Mayer Takes To Twitter Encouraging Yahoo Home Page Change

Mayer to customize or change my Yahoo

For an hour yesterday, Mayer re-tweeted those that promised to either change their home page to Yahoo, or customized Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO)’s relaunched My Yahoo. On first glance one could easily say this is simply a promotional stunt, and those people would be right. But there is no thing as bad publicity and in this case, it’s just plain old good publicity.

Mayer even re-tweeted the following: “If she retweets me, I will stop making fun of Yahoo’s new logo in public.” It’s nice to see a down-to-earth approach from a woman who makes wheel-barrows of money each hour she works. For Mayer, who a Yahoo spokesperson told CNET is actually doing the re-tweeting, there’s almost no effort at all required and it’s good clean fun at the end of the day.

If a re-tweet from Mayer isn’t enough to make you switch home pages, consider having a look at the new My Yahoo. For a minimal investment of time, My Yahoo and it’s new redesign, make for a great home page.

Yahoo’s new design

According to Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO), The refreshed design gives you a sleek, tailor-made starting page to access your email accounts, calendars, stock portfolio, sports scoreboard, weather, Flickr, and of course your favorite content—from Yahoo and around the Web. You can also choose from a range of cool new themes from designers like Oscar de la Renta, Rachel Zoe and Jenni Kayne; artists Chihuly, Polly Apfelbaum and Alec Monopoly; and even bands like Empire of the Sun, Twenty One Pilots, and FUN. On My Yahoo anyone can create their very own place that reflects a sense of style and personality.

Frankly, this is an accurate summary of the redesigned My Yahoo and I struggle to disagree with when they say it’s both informative and fun. The designs are great fun and easily changed to fit your mood, while those interested in financial news, their favorite sports teams, or breaking news will find themselves on a very functional and well designed home page.
