Marty Whitman's Third Avenue Fund Hires New President

Rothschild’s David Resnick, head of global financing advisory and a veteran restructuring banker, is leaving the investment bank to become president of Third Avenue Management, said people familiar with the matter.

Mr. Resnick, 52 years old, will move to Third Avenue to help expand the firm’s alternative-investment business, developing additional private funds, one of these people said. He will start in September and report to David Barse, Third Avenue’s chief executive, the person said. Mr. Resnick’s pending departure was disclosed internally at Rothschild on Monday, the person said.
