High caliber weapons among those stolen during raid

The FBI claims that there is no threat to the public and no link has been established with terrorism. Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker said that some of the weapons were high caliber and expressed his worries.

‘‘I’m especially concerned about it — separate and apart from anything that has to do with terrorism — I’m just concerned by the fact that some really high caliber weapons were stolen from a military facility in the first place,’’ Baker told reporters Monday.

The FBI, local and state law enforcement continue to investigate how the break-in occurred. Worcester City Manager Edward Augustus told reporters that extra police officers have been stationed throughout the community as a precautionary measure until further notice.

Details of the missing weapons have been uploaded to the National Crime Information Center, an online database which is searchable by police officers who find a suspect weapon. The investigation is ongoing but it is certainly interesting that the man appeared to know that the alarms were switched off due to construction.
