LG G7 ThinQ Specs, Design, Camera, AI, Release Date

Just weeks after launching the LG V30S ThinQ, LG Electronics is planning to unveil its next smartphone in the G-series on May 2. The company has confirmed that the upcoming flagship will be called LG G7 ThinQ to focus on its AI capabilities. LG had been considering changing the naming pattern for its G-series models for a long time, and it has finalized that the name G7 ThinQ truly represents what it has to offer. With the phone’s official unveiling only a few weeks away, folks at Android Headlines have leaked tons of details about the LG G7 ThinQ specs, features, camera, and design.

LG G7 ThinQ design

A few days ago, Android Headlines shared leaked official renders of the handset. The renders showed both the front and rear panels of the device. Unsurprisingly, the LG G7 ThinQ will have a notch at the top to accommodate the front camera, ear speaker, and other sensors. The notch on G7 ThinQ appears to be smaller than it is on Apple’s iPhone X. The top cutout has proved to be a controversial feature, and not everyone seems to like it. So, LG will give you the option to hide the notch by blacking out the screen space on either side of the cutout.

The phone still has a slim bezel at the bottom. It’s not completely bezel-less like iPhone X. On the back panel, you can see a vertically-oriented dual camera system, an LED flash, a laser autofocus system, and a circular fingerprint sensor. The LG branding is towards the bottom of the rear panel. The phone has a single power button on the right side. On the left, you’ll see volume rockers and a mystery button that is expected to allow users to activate the AI features.

According to Android Headlines, the phone’s default color option will be Aurora Black. But it will also be available in Platinum Gray, Raspberry Rose, Moroccan Blue, and Moroccan Blue (Matte). Of course, the color options will vary depending on the region and carrier.

LG G7 ThinQ Specs

According to the rumor mill, the upcoming flagship would feature an M+ LCD screen rather than an OLED panel. It would help LG Electronics keep the phone’s manufacturing costs down. The new display would be “twice as bright as the G6” and would offer more vibrant colors while consuming 35% less battery power.

The LG G7 ThinQ specs include 6GB RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot. It would be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor. The phone would come with a “Boombox Speaker” that bounces audio signals internally before outputting them to the listener to enhance the audio experience. The speaker on the G7 is also expected to be larger than G6.

The G7 ThinQ would run Android Oreo with LG’s custom UI on top. Google Assistant would come pre-installed on the handset. Android Headlines claims the phone will also feature far-field voice recognition, which will allow the device to hear your voice commands from a distance of up to 17 feet.

LG G7 ThinQ camera

The upcoming flagship would have two 16-megapixel lenses on the back panel. That’s an improvement from 16MP + 13MP sensors on the V30 and 13MP +13MP on the G6. The dual camera system would consist of a regular lens with an f/1.5 aperture that would enhance photography and videography in low-light conditions, and a wide-angle lens with a 107-degree field of view. The standard lens is also said to have 10-bit HDR compatibility to capture greater color.

The LG G7 ThinQ camera will have “superpixels,” which would enhance the phone’s ability to see better in dimly-lit environments. The feature automatically identifies the low-light conditions and combines the tiny pixels to form superpixels. According to Android Headlines, the G7 will be able to take four times brighter photos and videos compared to the last year’s model.

The phone will also have 2D and 3D camera stickers that you can paste over photos. There will also be a Manual Camera Mode to let you adjust settings like shutter speed and ISO. The camera will also have a “Live Photo” feature similar to Apple’s Live Photos and Google’s Motion Photos. It would allow users to create and share short videos. The LG G7 ThinQ will also get a Portrait Mode that would blur the background in photos.

LG G7 ThinQ Specs: AI features

The LG G7 ThinQ will get most of the AI features that LG introduced with the V30S ThinQ including the AI Cam, Voice AI, Vision AI, Q Lens, and a few others. The AI Cam will be capable of identifying the subject and accordingly adjusting the color, contrast, and saturation of images. It will also have the ability to adjust the exposure to offset against direct sunlight. The phone will also support Google Lens.

The G7 ThinQ will also offer improved connectivity with other LG products such as home appliances and TVs.

LG G7 ThinQ release date

LG Electronics will unveil the handset on May 2 at the Metropolitan West in New York City and on May 3 at I’PARK Mall in Seoul, South Korea. Considering there is a 13-hour time difference between New York and Seoul, the two launch events could take place simultaneously. The phone should go on sale by mid-May. The LG G7 ThinQ specs suggest that it would be an incredibly powerful smartphone, but it would face tough competition from Samsung’s Galaxy S9, Huawei’s P20 Pro and the upcoming OnePlus 6.
