LG G7 ThinQ Boombox Speaker Will Be 10x Louder Than Rivals

Updated on

The LG G7 ThinQ unveiling is only a couple of days away. The Korean company was previously expected to launch the device at the MWC, but it decided to delay its release and redesign the phone from scratch because it lacked “attractive selling points.” The LG G7 ThinQ will be the outcome of those redesign efforts. The phone has certainly gained some cool new selling points – including an improved Boombox speaker – to stand out in the crowd of Android smartphones, if teasers from LG Electronics are to be believed.

LG has been teasing its upcoming flagship for the last several days. The company recently revealed that the LG G7 ThinQ would allow you to hide the notch. In its latest blog post, LG said the G7 ThinQ would boast of a “Boombox speaker” to significantly enhance your audio experience. The upcoming flagship will be able to produce volume up to ten times louder than typical smartphones.

LG Electronics said it has used the space inside the smartphone as a resonance chamber to amplify the sound. The Boombox speaker will double the bass output and boost the sound level by more than 6dB. Over the last few years, LG has consistency focused on sound quality on its smartphones. The Boombox speaker on LG G7 ThinQ would be the company’s response to Samsung Galaxy S9’s stereo speakers that are tuned by AKG and offer Dolby Atmos integration.

The Korean company claims when the device is kept on a table or another solid surface made of materials such as iron or wood, the bass will get amplified even further. The audio experience on LG G7 ThinQ will be as powerful as connecting a phone to a separate speaker.

The phone will also have a few more tricks up its sleeves to improve the audio experience. LG Electronics described a second feature called DTS:X 3D Surround Sound in the LG G7 ThinQ. The DTS:X 3D technology will deliver high-end stereoscopic sound similar to a movie theater with up to 7.1-channel speakers. It will enhance dialogues while watching movies besides giving you an immersive content experience by offering a vivid sense of space.

The smartphone will retain the 3.5mm headphone jack. The DTS:X technology will work with regular earphones and headphones instead of requiring any special type of audio devices. The G7 ThinQ will also have the Hi-Fi Quad DAC that reduces harmonic distortion to just 0.0002% while converting digital signals into analog sound signals. In short, you can expect maximum audio accuracy from the G7 ThinQ.

The LG G7 ThinQ is also said to support the MAQ format, which enables high-quality, high-fidelity streaming while consuming much lower data that traditional audio formats. The Boombox speaker coupled with all these features would make a strong value proposition for audiophiles.

LG’s upcoming flagship would launch with a 6.1-inch Quad HD+ FullVision LCD panel that offers 1440 x 3120 resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The device will have an iPhone X-like notch to accommodate the front camera, ambient light sensor, and the ear speaker. LG Electronics will give users the option to hide the notch via software. Recent press renders have revealed that the G7 ThinQ will have a dedicated AI button below the volume rockers to launch Google Assistant.

As the “ThinQ” branding in its name suggests, AI will be “tightly integrated” with many features of the device including the camera. Features such as Vision AI, Q Lens, Voice AI, and AI Cam will be at the core of the G7 ThinQ. The AI Cam will automatically detect the object and the background, and then adjust the color, contrast, and saturation to take the best possible picture. It will also adjust the exposure to offset against sunlight.

The phone will be powered by Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset and at least 4GB RAM. It is expected to offer at least 64GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot for external memory. It would have a 16MP telephoto lens and a 16MP wide-angle lens on the back. The fingerprint sensor will be located on the back panel right below the dual camera module. Previous leaks have indicated that the phone will be available in Platinum Gray, Aurora Black, Raspberry Rose, Moroccan Blue, and Moroccan Blue (Matte) colors depending on the region and carrier.

LG Electronics is set to show off the LG G7 ThinQ on May 2nd in the New York City and on May 3rd in Seoul. We can expect to see more teasers ahead of the official unveiling. The phone is rumored to go on sale in mid-May. The G7 ThinQ will be a make-or-break flagship for the Korean company, whose smartphone business has been incurring losses for the last several quarters amid fierce competition from Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus.
