Every time Apple release a new device, there always a few issues that affect early customers. There have already been several issues with the iPhone X, and the latest issue relates to the iPhone X speaker buzzing. Dozens of users on the MacRumors forum have reported the problem, as well as reports on Reddit and Twitter.

This is not the first issue which iPhone X users are reporting. Prior to the speaker problems, the most recent issue was the prominent green line which appeared on the side of the display. When you’re spending a thousand bucks or more, the last thing you want is to have problems like this. Luckily, Apple do offer great support, and if you are experiencing the green line issue, or the sound issues, you can more than likely head on over to an Apple store and get a replacement free-of-charge.

What Is The Issue With The iPhone X Speaker Buzzing?

At the moment, it’s unclear what causes the issue. You can be sure Apple are already looking into this, and coming up with a fix. According to customer comments on social media and Apple related chat forums, it seems that most of the buzzing occurs when playing any sort of audio through the device near maximum volume. That can be anything from music, to movies, to an App, or even a phone call on loudspeaker. However, there are users who have reported the issue occurring at lower volume levels, even around 50% volume.

Will Apple Replace My Device?

Yes, they will. But, some users have reported that even after getting a replacement device, they are still experiencing the same problems on the new device. It’s unclear at the moment whether or not this can be fixed with a firmware update, or if Apple will have to make some hardware changes on the iPhone X to prevent this happening with future devices.

How Many Devices Are Affected By The iPhone X Speaker Buzzing?

It’s unclear at the moment as to how many devices are suffering from this issue. There have been several reports filed on social media, and on the top Apple related blogs and chat forums on the web. The MacRumors forum discussion mentioned earlier shows at least two dozen users (at the time of writing) are experiencing problems with their iPhone X speaker. That’s a fairly low number considering how many devices have been activated already, but it’s quite likely that we’ll see more reports coming in over the coming days.

When Does The Buzzing Occur?

This fault occurs with any type of audio playback, that could be a phone call, music, a video, and alarm clock sound, a ringtone, or any other type of audio playback on your iPhone X device. The issue doesn’t seem to be connected to any particular type of configuration or iOS version.

Which Speaker Does It Affect?

You may not be aware, but the iPhone X’s earpiece is also a speaker. The earpiece doubles up as a speaker which works alongside the traditional speaker at the bottom of the device to offer stereo sound. Thus far, all reports have suggested the issue is with the earpiece speaker, and not the speaker at the bottom of the device.

Will Apple Fix This iPhone X Speaker Issue With A Firmware Update?

It’s hard to say at this point; we don’t know if the issue is something which can be fixed with software, or if it’s a hardware update that’s required. But, a number of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus users experienced a similar problem with static noise on their devices, and Apple fixed that with a simple firmware update.

Hopefully the same can be done for those users who are experiencing issues with their iPhone X.

There’s no clear indication whether this is something which can be fixed with a firmware update, or if it’s a hardware issue. If you’re experiencing any problems with your iPhone X speaker, the best thing you can do is book a Genius bar appointment and get a replacement free of charge.

You can also contact Apple via online chat, e-mail, telephone, or even Twitter. They are particularly good when it comes to customer service, and want to ensure you’re happy with your new device. So, if you have a problem, let them know, and they’ll take care of it for you.

While it is possible that they will replace your device, and the new device will show the same problems, you should still be entitled to another new device when the issue is finally resolved (if it’s a hardware issue rather than something which can be fixed via firmware update).
