iPhone SE According To Packaging Leak

Updated on

As Apple rumor season draws to a close, I’ll try to get a few more in prior to Apple’s “Let Us Loop You In” event scheduled for Monday, March 21, 2016. It’s widely speculated that the company will reveal something called the iPhone SE, a 4-inch screen iPhone that will resemble the iPhone 5s in design with upgraded internals. This now appears to have been confirmed by a leak in the Chinese supply chain.

iPhone SE photos emerge

A photo of a sticker is making the rounds that confirms Apple’s decision to drop the “5” and simply go with SE. This wouldn’t be the silliest choice given the fact that the 5s was released quite some time ago and that others are calling for the unveiling of the iPhone 7 this month. Additionally, it appears that at least one version will have 16GBs of internal storage while also coming equipped with an NFC chip for Apple Pay.

A second photo and blog post suggests that there is also a 64GB model and will be available in silver, gold, rose gold and space gray.

Once again, all of this is mere speculation but it also falls in line with the consensus tech site speculation of the last month or so.

For many, the smaller screen is a welcome notion as, well, the iPhone 6s just doesn’t fit in my front jean pockets, never-mind the iPhone 6 Plus.

For others, the presumed lower price of $300 or $400 without a contract is a nice way to get your first iPhone.

iPhone SE, additional spec rumors

Many are calling for the SE to feature both a A9 and M9 chip as well as a 12-megapixel rear camera and a larger battery than the iPhone 5s.

Additional rumors suggest VoLTE calling, Bluetooth 4.2, and Live Photos, but no 3D Touch.

Most expect the event will also feature the unveiling of the next-generation iPad Air.

While there is certainly no guarantee that a phone will be unveiled at all owing to Apple’s secrecy, photos from the supply chain are generally fairly accurate and representative of what Apple has in store for its customers.
