After the launch of the iPhone X earlier this week, Apple has got down to work updating their lineup. There have been a bunch of changes to the iPhone models available including price cuts, discontinued colors, and new colors. If you’re looking to save some money on an older model iPhone then these price drops should come as great news. Let’s dive in an see what kind of changes Apple has made with their iPhone lineup.
Price Drops
It should come as no surprise that Apple has dropped the prices on the older models in their lineup. We rarely see price drops or sales on iPhones but the one time per year that you can count on iPhone price cuts is around launch season after they announce their new device. This year, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models have been reduced by $100. The iPhone SE has been reduced by about $50. Also, instead of being discontinued, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus got a price cut and are still available.
Here are the updated prices after the iPhone price cuts:
iPhone 7 32GB – $549
iPhone 7 128GB – $649
iPhone 7 Plus 32GB – $669
iPhone 7 Plus 128GB – $769
iPhone SE 32GB – $349
iPhone SE 128GB – $449
iPhone 6S 32GB – $449
iPhone 6S Plus 32GB – $549
New Color
Okay, so the color isn’t “new” as far as being brand new to the iPhone lineup. Apple has added a 32GB Jet Black iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus to the lineup. This means anyone who wants an entry level storage (and price) can still get that badass Jet Black color.
Discontinued Color
The (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have been discontinued. These were introduced back in March to help support the charity. They will no longer be available from the Apple Store so if you had your eye on one then you may have to turn to resellers, unfortunately. There’s no indication about whether we will see a (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus yet.
Price Increase
We don’t usually see price increases on existing products after an Apple launch. However, Apple did manage to sneak a price hike in between all of the iPhone price cuts. The iPad Pro models all got a small $50 price hike when Apple updated their online store. This is a bit of a surprise as the new iPad Pro models are a few months old. Perhaps Apple figured they could capitalize on some increased hype? Whatever the reason, it’s not a great move for consumers but if you were planning on buying an iPad Pro then $50 is probably not much of a concern for you anyway.
Time To Buy?
If you aren’t interested in dropping $999 for an iPhone X or picking up the iPhone 8 then these deals will be a welcome sight for you. Like I said, we don’t get to see price reductions on Apple products very often so if you have been holding off on pulling the trigger on a new iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus then now is about as good of a time as any to buy. The only better deals I can imagine in the short term are carrier sales on Black Friday.
What do you think about these new iPhone price cuts? Are you the type of person who is happy to get a deal on a one year old device or are you the kind of person who needs the absolute newest tech? If you do end up buying a discounted iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus then you can feel confident with your purchase knowing that your device will still get the newest iOS update. iOS 11 is coming on September 19th but, of course, if you can’t wait then there is a way to have iOS 11 up and running on your device right away.
Happy shopping!
