iPhone 7 Wireless Headphones Concept: Do You Want It In Real?

Updated on

An Apple hoax purportedly showing wireless headphones for the next generation iPhone 7 has gone viral.

Controversy has raged following rumors that Apple would be getting rid of the 3.5mm headphone jack in its new iPhone. The photo showing the wireless headphones went viral after it was posted by a Twitter user.

Mock up iPhone 7 advert goes viral

A user with the handle @SynKami posted what looked like an Apple iPhone advert, which went on to garner over 44,000 retweets. It features a concept image of an iPhone with no headphone port and some wireless earbuds on top.

The Twitter user wrote “I lost these and I don’t even have em yet” underneath the photo. The devices in the photo look incredibly small, and the image led to a major freak out on Twitter.

The iPhone 7 advert is definitely a fake as it contains multiple spelling errors. Apple itself has not made any official announcement on the future of the iPhone 7 nor whether it will do away with the headphone jack.

Headphone jack may be removed

A picture of an iPhone 7 case has been leaked by @OnLeaks, which is usually reliable. The image shows an iPhone 7 without a headphone jack. The rumor has been one of the most consistent regarding the next generation smartphone.

It seems increasingly likely that the company will get rid of the headphone jack on the iPhone 7 in order to make the device even thinner. The rumor sparked controversy among users outraged at the idea that they would have to buy a new set of headphones.

There is certainly a possibility that Apple will provide wireless headphones with the iPhone 7. However keen audiophiles will probably not be satisfied with the sound quality.

Apple iPhone 7 launch predicted for September

The generic Apple headphones provided with previous models have been average at best, and wireless headphones generally struggle to provide the same sound quality as their cabled cousins. As such Apple would be forcing those who are concerned by sound quality to shell out more money on expensive accessories.

Apple came in for a lot of flak for the same reason when it changed the charging port on the iPhone in 2012. Despite the controversy the affair eventually blew over and it seems that the same thing could happen with wireless headphones given the loyalty that Apple commands.

One thing that is for certain is that the wireless headphones shown in the viral photo are so small that they would be lost very easily.

It seems as though the iPhone 7 will be introduced at a launch event in California around September 2016. If Apple follows its normal pattern the device will then go on sale two weeks later.

Excitement is already building over the next generation iPhone. Apple reportedly cut back on production levels of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus due to fears that demand was slowing. The smartphone sold 13 million units in three days but Apple feared that people would wait for the iPhone 7 instead.

Other proposed innovations for the iPhone 7 include a new iPhone 7 Pro to top out the range, which could include a new dual-camera system. The new flagship smartphone would bring the iPhone range into line with the iPad and MacBook ranges.

As it stands everything is just a rumor given the lack of information provided by Apple. However the tech giant will have to bring out some major innovations to keep up in the battle with rival Samsung in the high-end smartphone market.
