When it comes to Apple’s flagship phone, the iPhone, the rumor mill never stops, does it? This time we are talking about fresh rumors related to Apple’s iPhone 7. It might sound strange because right now we are looking for the launch of iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus at the Sept. 9 event, and rumors have already started to arrive for the iPhone 7.
This time the report comes from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who suggests that next year’s iPhone 7 could be Apple’s thinnest smartphone yet with a thickness of between 6mm and 6.5mm, which is quite near to thickness of the current iPod Touch at 6.1mm. For comparison’s sake, the current iPhone 6 is 6.9mm thick, while the iPhone 6S Plus is expected to be 7.1mm thick.
The report, apart from mentioning the thickness of the iPhone 7, also mentions that next year’s iPhone will come with Force Touch technology. Apple is expected to also be adopting this same technology in this year’s iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.
Kuo also believes that Apple will be sticking to its current in-cell touch panels and won’t switch back to glass-on-glass touch panels next year. This means Apple most likely won’t face production issues, something the company has faced in the past. Also Apple won’t be likely creating a resolution of 4K or higher on its iPhone, so in-cell panels should do just fine for the time being.
If Apple wants to squeeze the size of iPhone, then the company will likely be continuing to use in-cell panels if they want to reach Kuo’s suggested 6mm-6.5mm size. This is also an indication that Apple won’t be squeezing larger batteries into the iPhone since the company wants to go thinner and thinner.
