According to a Japanese blog there is a chance that leaked photos and rendering of the iPhone 7 could be the “real thing.”
Leaks and rumors continue to appear concerning the next generation Apple smartphone, and most are fake. However MacOtakara has flagged up two previous leaks and concluded that there is a chance that they could be real.
Japanese blog makes iPhone 7 predictions based on leaks
The photos allegedly show an iPhone 7 with a dual camera, and the renderings reveal a handset with a similar design but with only one camera. Both leaks surfaced in March.
The image shows an iPhone 7 with a heavily rumored dual-camera system on the top left hand side of the back of the module. Analysts are split on the likelihood of a dual-camera system being introduced. Some say that it will only appear on the iPhone 7 Plus, while others believe that it will be introduced on a new halo model, the iPhone 7 Pro.
Alongside the pictures MacOtakara released a report summarizing the rumors that are swirling around the Apple iPhone 7. The report was found by MacRumors, and the latter site has concluded that the “possibility is great” that the iPhone 7 will look like this.
New smartphone to get Smart Connector?
The images show the new handset with slightly different antenna bands, as we have heard in other rumors. The bands run around the edge of the smartphone rather than across the back of it, as on the iPhone 6s.
So far, so good. Things look generally as expected. However the leak does include a surprising feature in the shape of the three dots on the rear of the phone.
This is a Smart Connector, which is currently found on the iPad Pro. The connector allows users to connect an Apple Smart Keyboard to their device.
TechRadar said that the Smart Connector is a “very strange feature for an iPhone to have.” The possibility of working with a keyboard “doesn’t seem like a logical move from Apple” on the iPhone 7. However there is a chance that an entirely new accessory will be revealed that makes use of the connector.
Thinner handset with dual-camera system a possibility
The phone shown in the renderings is largely similar to that in the photograph, however the camera module only has one sensor. It must be said that the hole seems to be much bigger than the one on the existing iPhone 6.
MacOtakara believes that the overall size and profile of the next generation handset will be similar to the existing model, but slightly thinner at around 6.1mm thick.
The Japanese blog also says that rumors regarding the loss of the headphone jack are true. However it does not believe that the space will be filled by a second speaker. In fact it makes no suggestions for what might be put in its place.
The fact that the headphone jack will be removed means that Apple will have to ship the device with wireless headphones. This idea has upset audiophiles who believe that wireless models provide lesser sound quality, and resent the fact that they will have to invest in an expensive new accessory.
Best in class screen could beat out Samsung
MacOtakara points out space for two sensors at the top of the device, but again does not theorize on what they might be for. MacRumors says they could be related to the screen, and True Tone color balancing sensors are one possibility.
Other rumors from DisplayMate float the idea that Apple will use a similar display unit on the iPhone 7 as the one currently found on the iPad Pro. During testing it was found that the screen has strong contrast levels, bright back lights, minimized reflections and uses True tone to match the temperature of the ambient lighting.
That display unit was found to be the best on any smartphone or tablet, even beating out the OLED display found on the Samsung Galaxy S7. If Apple does use a smaller version of the screen on the iPhone 7, it could beat out its great rival in the race to have the best screen.
While it is wise to take these leaks and rumors with a grain of salt, MacOtakara has a good track record for providing reliable information. It is looking increasingly certain that Apple will do away with the headphone jack in order to make the iPhone 7 thinner than its predecessor, but the story behind the dual-camera module is slightly more murky.
Either way it’s only a few months until the predicted official announcement from Apple.
