Apple’s much-awaited iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are less than a month away, if recent reports are to be believed. Inside sources told Buzzfeed News that the Cupertino company would unveil its latest smartphones on Wednesday, September 9. And we have been witnessing a lot of leaks and rumors about the iPhone 6S for months.
iPhone 6S display retains the dimensions of iPhone 6
Now MacManiack has released a video showing the “iPhone 6S” display panel side-by-side with that of the iPhone 6. The comparison shows that the displays have identical dimensions. The proximity sensor and FaceTime camera sit in the same place. However, you could notice a new connector on the top-left of the iPhone 6S that MacManiack says is for the Force Touch technology.
Previous display panel leaks have also pointed to pressure-sensitive Force Touch integration in the latest iPhones. The TouchID in iPhone 6S display appears to be integrated into LCD and digitized connector. But its flex connectors slightly differ from that in the iPhone 6. The mic and speaker remain at their original location. MacManiack is a reseller of Apple parts and accessories.
iPhone 6S expected to be slightly thicker
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that the integration of Force Touch sensors will make the iPhone 6S and its bigger sibling slightly thicker. However, most users won’t notice the increase in thickness because the next-gen devices will be merely 0.2mm thicker than their respective predecessors. What’s more, a closer look at the front-facing camera module reveals that the iPhone 6S will house a slightly larger front camera than the current flagship.
The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are expected to feature a 12-megapixel main camera with OIS, A9 processor, 2GB RAM, and Force Touch technology. The devices have already entered mass production. Apple’s partners will reportedly produce 90 million units of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus to meet the initial demand. However, some analysts are skeptical about the anticipated demand for the new iPhones.
