So far, we have seen many dummies, renderings and leaked images of the iPhone 6. But most of then have been about the 4.7-inch version. A recent case leak by NowhereElse offers some insight into the possible dimensions of the phablet 5.5-inch model. NowhereElse said the case is for the “iPhone 6S.” But it’s difficult to predict the name of an upcoming device from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s stable because it’s a closely guarded secret until official launch.

5.5-inch iPhone 6 to bring significant design changes

Dimensions of the case are 157mm x 81mm with just 7mm thickness. The tech giant is pulling out all stops to make the iPhone 6 extremely thin. However, designing a battery slim enough to power a 5.5-inch display for sufficient length of time is a challenge. The case leaks led to a frenzy of 3D printouts. So, now we can see how the phablet version of the iPhone 6 stacks up against the iPhone 5S.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s most successful product hasn’t seen much design changes since the iPhone 4 in 2010. In more recent models, the company has bumped up the display size from 3.5-inch to 4-inch, and replaced the glass finish with a slick aluminum unibody. Meanwhile, smartphones from rival vendors have undergone massive design changes. But latest reports and supply chain leaks suggest that the Cupertino-based company will make up for the lost time this year with the iPhone 6.

iPhone 6 or iPhone Air?

The phablet iPhone 6 will likely have an iPod Touch-like design. The company will replace Corning Gorilla glass with sapphire display, and give the rear shell a smoother, curved finish. NowhereElse showcased a 3D printout of the phablet iPhone 6, which they dubbed as “iPhone Air.” A head-to-head comparison shows that the iPhone 6 dwarfs the current flagship iPhone 5S. As KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had previously revealed, the power button has been repositioned to the side to accompany the volume buttons.

Though the phablet iPhone 6 will have a bigger screen, its design would ensure that users can operate it without any trouble. The 5.5-inch version is likely to be delayed, and is expected to arrive in September or October.
