iPhone 6 Phablet Release Date Set For 2015 [REPORT]

Updated on

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is finally getting into the phablet game, but the company’s problems in producing its larger than usual iPhone 6 are mounting up. That means that fans of the form-factor are probably going to have to wait until next year to get their hands on it.The move is an unfortunate one for tech observers as the interplay between the two models would have been interesting to see.

According to reports, which were originally picked up by the Digitimes, the 5.5 inch iPhone 6 phablet is going to see a release date in 2015 because of strategic issues. The most recent Apple earnings report suggests that the company will set the normal iPhone 6 release date in the latter half of September 2014, though it’s not clear when exactly the device will be shown off for the first time.

iPhone 6 phablet release date

The iPhone 6 phablet will release later than its smaller brother because of production problems according to the widely circulated rumors. According to Digitimes, however, “The different timetables have been set as Apple does not want to repeat the mistake it made in 2013 when it launched the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C simultaneously.” This is an interesting viewpoint, and it’s not clear how Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) reconciles itself to the iPhone 5C given it has nearly twelve months of sales under its belt.

Perhaps Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) wants to spend more time concentrating on each model of iPhone at each press conference, particularly given the difference in usage with an iPhone 6 phablet. Regardless the iPhone 6 phablet release date will land after that of the normal model, and it seems that it could be projected forward into the spring, even perhaps to the old iPad release date of April.

Nobody is quite sure what Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is going to call its 5.5 inch smartphone, but iPhablet appears to be out of line. For the moment iPhone 6 phablet is about as good as anybody’s going to get, though guesses that one of the models released this year will be the iPhone 6 Air may be on the right track.

iPhone 6 release date on track

The iPhone 6 is still on track to be released this year, and it’s probably going to follow the release dates of most of the company’s recent smartphones. Given the numbers clear in the most recent Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) earnings report, it seems that the iPhone 6 will be released before September 27. It’s probably due to hit shelves on a Friday so that Apple can count up its opening weekend.

That puts the best bet for the iPhone 6 release date on Friday September 19, meaning the company’s press conference for the smartphone is likely to be on Tuesday September 9. The company showed off the 5S for the first time on September 10 of last year, and released it to the public on September 20.

The iPhone 6 phablet release date is unlikely to be known, or even widely speculated about, until everyone gets over the initial rush of the iPhone 6 release.
