The iPhone 6 is expected to have a better battery than the one that’s in the iPhone 5S, but just how much better? According to the French blog Nowhereelse, the iPhone 6 will have a 1,810 mAh battery, which is only slightly better than the 1,560 mAh battery that’s in the iPhone 5S. In general, it’s an incremental improvement that makes sense—if the information is accurate.
Competing reports on the iPhone 6 battery
It should be noted that Nowhereelse generally has a pretty good track record when it comes to rumors about Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s upcoming devices. The website’s claim about the 1,810 mAh battery matches up with a rumor from last month which indicated that the battery for the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 would be that size. Last week, however, an analyst suggested that the 4.7-inch model will have a 2,100 mAh battery, which would be a significant improvement.
This around though, Nowhereelse has posted close-up photos of what it says is the battery of the iPhone 6. As Mac Rumors points out, the battery in the photo contains the full text that’s required by regulatory agencies to be placed on batteries. There’s also an Apple logo and a photo that seems to show the batteries ready for shipment in trays. One of the batteries in the photos also sports a June manufacturing date, although the battery in the previous photo that supposedly suggested a 1,810 mAh capacity showed a July manufacturing date.
What about the bigger iPhone 6?
And then there’s the question of just how good the battery in the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will be, if Apple really is working on an even bigger size. That battery supposedly has a 2,915 mAh capacity, which would be a big-time increase in battery life. An iPhone with such a large screen will need a big capacity, however, if Apple wants to keep the battery life on the larger iPhone model at a decent level.
