Months ahead of the release of the next Apple smartphone, many consumers are wondering what iPhone 11 features will dominate the next release from the consumer electronics giant. With the Apple share price having fallen a fair bit recently, it is clear that the consumer electronics giant has some significant challenges to overcome in the near future, especially when one considers the context of this stock performance.
It has recently been reported that the overall global marketplace for smartphones receded nearly 10 percent over the last 12 months. This obviously impacts massively on Apple, as its iPhone smartphone is still its most successful product by a considerable distance. This means that it will need to deliver some outstanding iPhone 11 features if it is to attract consumers back to what is still the market-leading handset.
Early reports on iPhone 11 features seem to suggest that Apple will particularly focus on the battery lifecycle and performance capabilities of the smartphone. A recently leaked document notes that the consumer electronics giant will escape any legal problems in relation to the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which have been prominent after Apple’s recent concessions regarding its makeup and operating system. The note goes on to explain why.
“iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X models use a more advanced hardware and software design that provides a more accurate estimation of both power needs and the battery’s power capability to maximize overall system performance. This allows a different performance management system that more precisely allows iOS to anticipate and avoid an unexpected shutdown. As a result, the impacts of performance management may be less noticeable on iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.”
However, the smartphone manufacturer still faces difficulties in this area, with the note conceding that “over time, the rechargeable batteries in all iPhone models will diminish in their capacity and peak performance and will eventually need to be replaced”.
So one of the first iPhone 11 features that would be particularly valued would be stable performance and battery lifecycle over a period of time. No users are expecting the iPhone 11 to retain its initial standard of performance indefinitely, but the admission of Apple that previous iPhone units are effectively throttled has certainly damaged the reputation of the Californian corporation. Certainly if Apple could promote the fact that the iPhone 11 does not feature any significant throttling, it would be a massive feather in its jaded cap.
One of the key iPhone 11 features will be the physical lineup of models itself, with the consensus of opinion suggesting that Apple is intending to release three mainstream smartphone devices. The first of these will effectively be a replacement for the existing iPhone X, delivering a 5.8-inch curved OLED screen.
But it is the two other models of the iPhone 11 that will perhaps raise eyebrows to a certain extent, with the first featuring a 6.1-inch LCD screen. This would be the largest smartphone that Apple has ever released, were it not for the fact that a huge 6.5-inch OLED model is also anticipated.
This larger version of the iPhone series is said to be branded as the iPhone 11 Plus, although the iPhone X Plus is another possible name for the device. But the top iPhone 11 features will undoubtedly be bound for this state of the art model, which is likely to retail at a price point well in excess of $1,000.
Early analysis from the infamous KGI Securities suggests that the new devices will be particularly important for Apple in developing markets such as China.
“We believe the addition of 6.5-inch OLED and 6.1-inch LCD iPhone models will boost Apple’s market share in China, and that the US$650-750 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will make it easier for users worldwide to own a 3D sensing and full-screen design iPhone which offers an innovative user experience,” KGI noted.
Another one of the key iPhone 11 features that has come to light in the early reports on the smartphone is that Apple intends to exclusively using Intel modems for its forthcoming device. Previously Qualcomm had been used in this area as well, but Apple is looking to simplify its production methods and supply chain in 2018, in order to push more iPhone 11 units out of the gate from day one.
This should mean that the speed of iPhones will be standardized across the world, eliminating the performance discrepancies that have been common in the iPhone X generation. Interestingly, it is generally believed that the Qualcomm modem delivers superior data transfer to the Intel release, so it seems somewhat odd that Apple has opted for Intel as the sole modem provider. However, this can be explained to a great extent by its ongoing lawsuit with the Qualcomm corporation.
Other key iPhone 11 features will focus on the physical design of the device, with a smaller notch and thinner bezels anticipated for this smartphone. There have also been suggestions that the photographic capabilities of the iPhone camera will be improved to respond to the likes of the Galaxy S9 and its super slow motion feature. Expect improved shooting in low-light conditions as well.
This means that the iPhone 11 will benefit from 360-degree true depth sensing, while all three models are set to receive a dual-camera with outstanding megapixel ratings. Apple is also expected to enhance the LTE capabilities of the iPhone 11, and it is possible that 5G will even be embraced. 4K resolution is also a distinct possibility, particularly if Apple decides to release the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 that has been reported.
All in all, it seems that Apple will push the boat out with the iPhone 11 generation, and release a revolutionary device, rather than an upgraded version of the iPhone X.
