Facing WiFi Issues After Updating To iOS 10? Here’s How To Fix It

Updated on

Apple has released the iOS 10 with tons of exciting new features and improvements. As is the case with most major iOS rollouts, this too is not without problems. Early adopters who upgraded to the new mobile operating system have reported a variety of issues, including WiFi connectivity problems. Many users said that after updating to iOS, they were unable to connect to a WiFi network, getting extremely low speeds, or getting an incorrect password prompt.

How to fix iOS 10 WiFi problems

If you are experiencing WiFi issues after updating to iOS 10, here are a few simple and easy ways to fix it:

1- Reboot the router

The problem may not necessarily be with the iDevice or the iOS 10 itself. So, the first thing you should do is to make sure that the WiFi router or modem is working without hiccups.

2- Force restart your device

This is the next logical step. Simply hold down the Home button and sleep/wake button simultaneously until the screen goes blank and the iconic Apple logo appears.

3- Forget WiFi network and rejoin

If the trouble persists or if you are getting an incorrect password prompt even after entering the correct password, try to forget the WiFi network and then rejoin. Go to Settings > WiFi > tap on the information “i” icon next to the network of your choice > tap on Forget This Network. To rejoin, select the network and enter password. This should hopefully fix the problem.

4- Reset Network Settings

Resetting the network erases cache and clears DHCP settings and other network information. It solves most of the WiFi problems in one fell swoop. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Networking Settings. Avoid tapping on Reset All Settings or Erase All Content and Settings.

5- Disable WiFi Networking

Many iPhone and iPad users reported that they were able to solve their WiFi problems by disabling WiFi Networking. Don’t worry, it doesn’t disable WiFi completely because it is related to your location being used for WiFi networking. Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services and toggle off WiFi Networking.

6- Turn off WiFi Assist and turn back on

The iPhone maker introduced WiFi Assist with iOS 9 to provide you a stable Internet connectivity when the WiFi network becomes spotty. It allows the operating system to switch from WiFi to cellular when the connected network fails to deliver sustainable Internet. Many users reported that turning the WiFi Assist off and turning it back on resolved the issue for them.

If none of these works for you, you may consider booking a Genius Bar appointment to let Apple look at the device and fix it.
