Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) is apparently planning to build a $4 billion chip plant in County Kildare, Ireland. The company’s base operations are already located there, and the new plant will add about 4,300 jobs to the area, according to Silicon Republic. That will more than double the amount of staff members Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) has working in that part of Ireland. The news comes a day after the company revealed that it would shut down its desktop motherboard business within the next few years.

In order to build the plant, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) had to seek approval from the top planning agency in Ireland. The plant will build Intel’s next generation of 14 nanometer microprocessors. The plans for the new plant still must be finalized by Intel’s board of directors.

About two years ago Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) has said it would build a $500 million plant in the same area. The new plans for the plant are a substantial upgrade from the original plan, and they call for about quadruple the jobs of the original plan.

The inspector’s report indicates that the new plant will have more than 244,819 square meters and be located inside the current Intel complex. About 3,500 construction workers will spend two years building the plant, and 800 permanent jobs will be created there. There will be a few new structures added to the complex, including the main fabrication plant, which will be three stories tall. There will also be a system building which will hold chemicals and waste water and a few other buildings with various utility purposes.
