“HTC remains at the forefront of smartphone innovation. Scott Croyle will be focusing on special projects and dedicated on next generation developments,” according to the statement of the company.

HTC Corp (TPE:2498) said Croyle will transition his responsibilities to his successor, but he will still help the company in its product development as a consultant, and considers the transition a long-term process.

Croyle was the primary person behind the design of HTC One (M8), the flagship smartphone of HTC Corp (TPE:2498). The device receive positive reviews because of its sleek design.

Some observers in the technology industry suggest that HTC Corp (TPE:2498) will likely name Jonah Becker, Croyle’s second in command to take over the responsibilities and will probably lead the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer’s studio in San Francisco.

HTC appoints Wang as acting CFO

Separately, the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer appointed Edward Wang as acting chief financial officer, according to Bloomberg based on the information from people familiar with the situation.

According to the report, HTC Corp (TPE:2498) promoted Wang because its current CFO is more focused on his responsibility as head of global sales. Sources said, prior to Wang’s promotion, his role was associate vice president of finance and accounting.

Bloomberg said HTC Corp (TPE:2498) refused to offer comment about Wang’s promotion and the company maintained its statement last December 17, which indicated that Chang was appointed to oversee its global sales and will remain as CFO “until the time a transition of responsibilities makes sense.”
