We live in a WiFi world whether we like it or not. People today have access to many WiFi networks: at home, the office, coffee shops, universities, some government offices and many other places. Having to connect to so many different WiFi networks at various times means its easy to forget the password that you used when you connected for the first time.
You might forget which password you used, and perhaps even which password belongs to which WiFi network, never mind whether it’s case sensitive, contains any special characters and the link. So if you are already connected to a WiFi and want to find out the password, in most cases you can easily find the password. If you are on Windows or Mac OS X, then read on to find out how you can recover the password by using the commands outlined below.
The process to recover a WiFi password depends on the operating system that you are using.
Finding password of WiFi on Windows & Mac OS X
For Windows:
Step 1: Launch the command prompt. To do this, just press Ctrl+R, type “cmd” and press Enter.
Step 2: Enter this command and replace the SSID with your own version: netsh wlan show profiles name=[profile name] key=clear
Step 3: You will now be able to see the security key.
For Mac OS X:
Step 1: Click to open a new Terminal window
Step 2: Enter this command in the Terminal and then replace the SSID with your own SSID: security find-generic-password -ga SSID | grep password
Step 3: If you are prompted for a administrator’s username and password, then enter the required info and you should be able to see the password on the screen.
These three simple steps are all you have to do to recover your existing WiFi password in case if you forgot it.
