According to police in the U.S. city of Houston, Texas, several people have sustained injuries after a shooting incident at a shopping mall.
The Houston mall shooting is believed to have begun around 6.20 am local time. Local police confirmed there is “an active shooter situation in a shopping center near the corner of Weslayan and Bissonnet in southwest Houston.”

One witness told local media that he heard around 100 “steady gunshots” at the time of the shooting.

“We do not have a count at this time as to how many people have been shot,” police said. Local media sources had previously reported that at least 7 people had sustained injuries.
Police have reportedly shot and killed the shooter, who was described as a black man carrying a revolver.
“He has been neutralized,” said Assistant Fire Chief Richard Mann. “I do not know if he is dead, but he is no longer a threat to the public.”
Emergency services were called to the scene of the Houston mall shooting and one vehicle was surrounded by a bomb squad.
The streets surrounding the mall are usually busy with commuter traffic around the time of the shooting.
Law enforcement continues to investigate
Police have warned residents not to travel to Wesleyan Street between Westpark Drive and Bissonnet Street. According to law enforcement the gunman was acting alone and there doesn’t appear to be any other suspects involved.
Some of the victims reportedly suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Injured people could be seen lying at the scene of the crime.
Skip Cornelius, a local attorney, told ABC13 that his son had suffered a gunshot wound as he sat in his car. However the younger Cornelius has apparently escaped serious injury.
Police continue to investigate the Houston mall shooting. This is the latest violent incident in the United States at a time of heightened tensions.
At this stage it does not look as though anyone lost their life in the attack. There has been no word on the possible motive for the Houston mall shooting.
