Google & Samsung Plan To Launch A 10-Inch Tablet To Compete With iPad

Updated on

In a recent report from CNET, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) could possibly have a joint project that involves a large tablet computer in the near future.

We already know that both companies are collaborating for a 10.1 inch tablet computer, that could potentially be a vamped up version of the Nexus 7 tablet.

NPD Display research analyst, Richard Shim, gives the details he obtained from supplier checks from Asia. He reported that this new tablet could have a higher pixel density and more impressive display than Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s current tablet.

Google & Samsung Plan To Launch A 10-Inch Tablet To Compete With iPad

This report is interesting, especially given the fact that Samsung’s Galaxy S III (which features Android operating system) has sold so well. If both companies work together to create a large Galaxy tablet, it’s possible that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) could lose a little bit of ground in the tablet market.

Right now, Apple’s third generation iPad takes the lead as top tablet, but that could change if the right product is launched. It’s also predicted that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) could introduce the iPad Mini in a matter of days. The iPad Mini would be a smaller version of the large iPad, plus it would be a direct competitor against budget Android-based tablets, like Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble’s Nook Tablet.

The market is currently inundated with dozens of tablet computers, but only a few truly stand out. Anyone could create a tablet but only a few trail blaze through competition. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Android have proven the ability to create innovative smartphones, they could apply much of the same technology to their upcoming tablet, and they would have a clear competitor. If this rumor is true, there is no word on when we can expect the tablet, or how much it will cost.

I’m surprised that those two haven’t already teamed up to create a special tablet.
