Google doesn’t want to keep its next-gen Pixel 4 device a secret. The company has officially revealed its design and many of its coolest features. A couple of months ahead of Pixel 4 launch, the search engine giant has announced massive discounts on last year’s Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones. The discounted price of Pixel 3 is now only slightly higher than the budget-friendly Pixel 3a. Last month, a leaked Verizon timeline suggested that the Pixel 4 would hit the store shelves by late October.
The search engine giant is running “Special Offers” on the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, offering a $300 discount on last year’s flagship models via Google Store. The Google Pixel 3 is now available for $500, down from its regular price of $800. The larger Pixel 3 XL starts at $600 compared to the regular price of $900. By comparison, the budget-friendly Pixel 3a starts at $400 and the Pixel 3a XL has a starting price of $480.
If you wanted to grab a Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL, this is the best time to buy. But it could be a difficult decision. That’s because the Pixel 3a still costs $100 less than Google Pixel 3, and has many of the same features. The biggest difference is that the Pixel 3 runs a powerful Snapdragon 845 chipset while the Pixel 3a gets the mid-range Snapdragon 670 processor. On the other side, the Pixel 3a has the 3.5mm headphone jack, which is missing from the premium Pixel 3 series.
Another aspect to consider is that the Google Pixel 4 launch is just around the corner. The new phone will bring many exciting features such as the dual-camera setup, advanced facial recognition, a new design, and motion tracking. It will also have a higher RAM than the Pixel 3 series. But the Pixel 4 will be available at the full retail price rather than at a discount.
Anyway, Google is giving you plenty of time to think about it before making a decision. The deal runs through September 28th. Of course, there is also the “while supplies last and subject to availability” clause. The Pixel 4 launch is rumored to take place in the first half of October.
According to 9to5Google, the company was offering a $300 discount on Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL last month to select customers with a special promo code. The devices are available in Clearly White, Just Black, and Not Pink color options.
The upcoming Pixel 4 will be competing with Samsung’s next-gen Galaxy Note 10 and Apple’s upcoming iPhone 11 series. The search engine giant is adding some cool features to its phone to make it a worthy challenger to Note 10 and iPhone 11. The Pixel 4 would have a unibody rear panel and a square camera module on the back. Google is expected to do away with the dual-tone combination of the matte and glossy finish.

The Pixel 4 is getting a new 3D facial recognition technology similar to Apple’s Face ID. The face unlocking feature would rely on an IR sensor, a flood illuminator, and a dot projector to scan a 3D map of your face. The feature would work in any orientation, meaning you could unlock the Pixel 4 just by looking at it even if you are holding the phone upside down. Google will store your facial recognition data locally in the phone’s Titan M security chip to prevent anyone from accessing it.
Google is also adding a new ‘Motion Sense’ technology to Pixel 4. Motion Sense is based on Google’s Project Soli radar chip, which enables hands-free gestures. Motion sensing will allow users to control basic functions such as snoozing alarms, skipping songs, and silencing phone calls just by waving their hands.
The regular Pixel 4 is said to feature a 5.6-inch display while the XL variant would sport a 6.4-inch OLED panel. There will be no display notch. Instead, Google has opted for a thick bezel at the top to house the selfie camera, ear speaker, and all the sensors needed to support the face unlocking feature.

The upcoming Pixel phones would pack 6GB RAM, up from 4GB on the Pixel 3 series. Both the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are expected to run Qualcomm’s recently announced Snapdragon 855 Plus, which is a minor upgrade over the Snapdragon 855. They would run Google’s Android Q software out of the box.
