New Galaxy X Edge Concept Shows Potential Design And Features

Updated on

While little is known about the Galaxy X, and even less so about a supposed Galaxy X Edge, talented artists are always envisioning what the latest and greatest from phone manufacturers like Samsung will look like. The YouTube channel “Science and Knowledge” recently released a new Galaxy X Edge concept video imagining the design of the upcoming phone.

Galaxy X Edge Design

The Galaxy X Edge concept video, included below, gives the artist’s idea of what we could see from the phone’s release. As is to be expected, the model resembles the existing Samsung line quite a bit, but there’s also some significant differences.

The phone will be made of metal and glass, which is a recent trend that lends itself to a premium design. Despite this video only being a concept, it’s clear that we can expect that the Galaxy X Edge will be a beautiful phone as one of Samsung’s luxury flagships. The dual camera setup on the back is vertically aligned, with a flash included underneath — and if past history is any indication, the quality of these lenses will be some of the best on the market.

The fingerprint scanner is pretty small, and is actually located beneath the camera’s flash. The Samsung logo is on the back side of the device, and the rear of the phone is curved., and the phone’s edges are also curved, as we’ve seen in previous “Edge” models. As far as practical functions go, the power and lock key lies on the right-hand side on the phone, with the volume rocker on the left. Strangely, the Bixby button used to rouse Samsung’s AI assistant seems to be missing in this mockup. The side and bottom bezels of the phone are nearly non-existent, and the front bezel is also pretty small — which makes sense, as it needs to be larger to account for the camera, an earpiece, and other sensors.

Galaxy X Edge Specs

In addition to the design in the video, the Galaxy X Edge concept also imagined some potential specifications for the phone. The Galaxy X Edge is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, adding some peace of mind when it comes to protecting your phone. The screen is a 5.8-inch QHD Super AMOLED Infinity display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection on both the screen and the rear of the phone.

Android 8.0 Oreo will come preinstalled on the device, and Samsung will add its own custom UI over the basic Android software. This is to be expected from a company who wants complete control over the aesthetic and functionality of their phones, but the custom skinning can sometimes obscure the elegant and simple design of stock android.

The phone is imagined to sport the Snapdragon 835 SoC, and the camera specs include a 16-megapixel camera front camera with a f/1.7 aperture. The rear lenses are two 16-megapixel cameras (f/1.7 aperture), allowing for higher quality photos from the Galaxy X Edge primary camera. In terms of performance, the device comes with 4GB / 6GB of RAM and 64 / 128GB of storage — allowing for excellent power and plenty of room to store your favorite games and apps.

Refreshingly, a 3.5mm headphone jack is included, bucking the recent trend of omitting support for traditional headphones. The huge 4150 mAh battery allows the phone to last all day, and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 fast charging will let you quickly top up your X Edge when the power drops low.

It’s important to remember that this video is simply an artist’s representation of what this yet-unannounced phone may include, and we could see something drastically different when the actual details come to light. Concept videos have little practical use, but it’s always fun to imagine what exciting upcoming releases may offer the consumer. If there’s one takeaway from this video, it’s that the Galaxy X Edge could have a beautiful design and impressive specs. We’ll have to wait until the actual announcement to see whether Samsung will deliver a device that meets or exceeds the expectations from this Galaxy X Edge concept video.
