Samsung Galaxy S9 Models Emerge In Major Online Leak

Updated on

Although the next generation Samsung mobile is still some way away, new information on the Galaxy S9 models has emerged. We can expect this smartphone to be released around the time of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next year, and already critical information on the Galaxy S9 is beginning to seep out.

The breaking news on the Galaxy S9 models revolves around a set of codes that corresponded with firmware for the next batch of Samsung devices. The numbers seem to confirm that the firmware for the Galaxy S9 is already being developed, with sources from close to the Samsung supply chain having confirmed this information.

Firmware codes for the two Galaxy S9 models are thus confirmed to be G960FXXU0AQI5 and G965FXXU0AQI5. This would seem to rule out the possibility that Samsung will consider releasing three devices in its flagship smartphone range, as Apple has indeed done with the iPhone in 2017.

Looking at the first set of codes related to these two Galaxy S9 models gives us some significant insight. It would seem that the next gen releases are already codenamed as SM-G960 and SM-G965. Obviously the 965 number will relate to the Galaxy S9 Plus.

However, it is also worth mentioning at this juncture that it is possible that Samsung will skip the Galaxy S9 branding completely and call the device something along the lines of Galaxy S10, effectively following the lead of Apple with the iPhone X, and even imitating Microsoft with its Windows 10 release.

Aside from the revelation of these two Galaxy S9 models, it has also been reported that Samsung is working on a beefed up version of its Bixby personal assistant to be unveiled when the S9 hits the stores. This software is still arguably lagging behind the Apple Siri alternative at present, but programmers and engineers at the Korean corporation have been working diligently on rectifying the situation.

Considering that there is an increased focus on the AI capabilities of mobile devices, with even smart speakers now appearing in homes regularly, it would be wise for Samsung to soup up Bixby. It is believed that Samsung is currently working on dedicated AI software in an attempt to improve Bixby, and this will no doubt be greatly welcomed by Galaxy S9 consumers.

Renders for the two Galaxy S9 models have already appeared online, although these artist impressions preceded the new codes. However, with the impression certainly being that there will be two galaxy S9 releases in 2018, the renders are still very much relevant. The images depict a smartphone with an even more revolutionary appearance than the iPhone X, suggesting that Samsung will tackle Apple directly in the aesthetics department when the Galaxy S9 is unveiled.

Previous reports from Korea have suggested that Samsung has already handed the Galaxy S9 models internal codenames. Apparently, engineers and developers are working on the two devices under the names of Star and Star 2, with the clear intention of producing devices even more powerful than the recent and impressive Galaxy Note 8.

Sources in Korea suggest that development is actually ahead of schedule for the Galaxy S9, and that this could either result in a release date that is moved forwards, or an even more technologically advanced device than would otherwise be possible.

The Galaxy S9 models could also encompass an interesting design innovation, with reports suggesting that the developer has been working on a unique lamination process that will deliver four curved edges. Although Samsung is still working on this technology, it is believed that the process will be completed by the beginning of 2018, meaning that the Galaxy S9 could benefit from this feature.

Interestingly, reports from Korea have suggested that both of the Galaxy S9 models will feature the same display size in 2018, departing from what is standard practice in the mobile industry. Obviously these devices will be separated by physical features and specifications, in order to entice consumers to opt for the more powerful Galaxy S9 plus.

It all adds up to an interesting picture six months away from the release of the Galaxy S9, and ValueWalk will keep all Android fans posted in the meantime.
