Samsung won’t show you the Galaxy S8 before March 29th. The company teased the device at its pre-MWC event. Of course, we have seen numerous case renders, blurry pictures, and concept designs of the Galaxy S8. Now prolific tipster Evan Blass gives us a look at the complete Galaxy S8 with its wrap-around screen and incredibly slim top and bottom bezels.
Galaxy S8 in all its glory
The image shows the phone’s long, narrow body with no physical home button. Samsung traditionally announces new Galaxy S phones at the MWC, but the company released only two tablets at this year’s event. Samsung will hold a special event on March 29 in New York to show off the S8. The Korean company had to postpone the Galaxy S8 launch due to the Galaxy Note 7 disaster.

On the left side, the phone has a power/lock button and a volume rocker. There is also a button on the right, which is said to be dedicated to the Bixby AI assistant. Samsung’s voice assistant would be compatible with all the native apps on Galaxy S8, and will speak eight languages including Chinese, Korean and English. The top and bottom bezels are so thin that there is no room for Samsung’s logo or branding.
No sign of fingerprint sensor
The image does not have any signs of the fingerprint scanner. Samsung has reportedly moved the fingerprint sensor to the back, next to the main camera. We still have almost a month to go, so there is plenty of time for more image leaks. The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are expected to have 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display. Both handsets would feature a 12-megapixel Dual Pixel rear camera and 8MP front snapper.
The Korean electronics giant has reduced the bezels to make the phone more compact. But it could cause usability problems. For instance, users will have to over-extend the thumb to reach the bottom of the screen. An accidental touch could activate the display. A wrap-around display could more easily shatter when the phone is dropped. Apple has reportedly dropped the idea of curved display on the iPhone 8 for the same reason.
Users can rearrange virtual navigation buttons on Galaxy S8
In a separate leak, Android Police reports that Samsung would allow users to rearrange the virtual navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen. You can’t add new buttons or apps, but you can arrange their order. On Samsung devices, the navigation buttons are arranged as app switch, home, and back from left to right. But other Android phones have them in the following order: back, home, and app switch.
The US and European versions of Galaxy S8 are said to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset. Other countries would get the Exynos 8895-powered version. The device would feature 4GB RAM, 64GB of built-in storage expandable via a microSD card, and IP68 water resistance.
