Last year, Samsung left its fans disappointed when it reduced the battery size of its flagship smartphones. But the upcoming Galaxy S7 Edge will sport a much bigger battery. A few days ago, both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge passed through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The US regulatory body has certified both handsets for AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint, which indicates that the phones will be available on all major US carriers.
Galaxy S7 Edge packs a 3,600mAh battery
A screenshot from the FCC filing confirms that the S7 Edge will pack a monstrous 3,600mAh battery. That is significantly larger than the 3,000mAh battery in last year’s Galaxy Note 5 and 3,450mAh in Nexus 6P. A bigger battery does not necessarily translate into longer battery life, but it is a promising start. By optimizing the software, Samsung can indeed offer incredible battery longevity.
Unfortunately, the Galaxy S7 FCC ID and label position document in the filing do not include a screenshot. But the 5.1-inch Galaxy S7 is rumored to feature a 3,000mAh battery. Separately, well-known tipster Evan Blass has leaked press render of the Galaxy S7 Edge in gray. The leaked image also confirms February 21 as the official launch date of the phone.

Countdown for the Unpacked event begins
Samsung is expected to take the wraps off the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge at its Unpacked event in Barcelona on February 21. Recent rumors suggest that the phones will go for sale in the US and European markets on March 11. With its next-gen flagship phones, Samsung will bring back support for microSD cards, giving users ability to increase storage on their phones.
Both the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are said to be powered by Exynos 8890 or Snapdragon 820 depending on the market. Other reported features include 4GB RAM, a 12-megapixel main camera with f/1.7 aperture, and a USB Type-C port. Both phones will be waterproof and dustproof, and will run Android Marshmallow right out of the box.
