Galaxy S6 Tipped To Release In March 2015

Updated on

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930)’s forthcoming flagship smartphone Galaxy S6 would hit the stores earlier than usual. For the past few years, Samsung has announced its new Galaxy S devices in early March at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) and would roll out the phone in April. But the Korean company’s sales are declining at an alarming rate. Its smartphone market share has shrunk from 33% last year to 25% now.

Galaxy S6 may hit the stores in March

South Korean media outlet Daum has learned from inside sources that the Galaxy S6 will be launched in spring 2015, more precisely in March. The device is expected to enter mass production in February. So, if Samsung announces the Galaxy S6 at the MWC next year, scheduled for March 2-5, 2015, the rollout would begin just days after the announcement.

That’s in line with previous reports claiming that the Korean electronics giant may rush the launch of its flagging sales to counter the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The new flagship phone will have a huge burden of reviving Samsung’s falling sales. The device is currently in “early development stage” under what is internally called “Project Zero.”

Galaxy S6 to come with dual-edge display

As the name of the project suggests, Samsung is designing it from scratch with a whole new look, feel and philosophy. The company expects the Galaxy S6 to be nothing less than a game changer. IHS Technology analysts believe that the Galaxy S6 will arrive with dual-curve display. That could attract users if the company could add useful features to the side displays, just like it has done with the curved display of Galaxy Note Edge.

Though Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed anything, there have been a lot of rumors, speculations and leaks about the Galaxy S6. The phone is expected to sport a Quad HD display, 4GB RAM, 20-megapixel main camera, a superfast UFS 2.0 memory, and Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor with Adreno 430 GPU.
