Galaxy S6: Samsung Sends Out Invites For March 1 Event

Updated on

Samsung was recently awarded a design patent for a curved display technology

For the past several weeks, there have been rumors that the Galaxy S6 will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Now the Korean electronics giant has sent out invites for its Galaxy Unpacked event on March 1 in Barcelona, a day before the MWC event officially kicks off. Samsung’s invite hints at the much-rumored curved display.

The invite points to an ‘Edge’ variant

The invite features a curved side profile, much like the Galaxy Note Edge, along with a message “What’s Next.” Samsung is expected to launch a standard version of the Galaxy S6 along with an ‘Edge’ version. The Korean company’s press invitation was first published by Vietnamese website Tinhte. The Edge model will have curves on the both sides of the main screen.

Patently Mobile reports that Samsung was recently awarded a design patent that describes curved display technology for a smartphone. Images described in the patent suggest that the curved displays extend toward the back of the device. It will reportedly provide quick access to media controls, notifications and various apps.

How much the Galaxy S6 would cost?

AndroidPit has learned from inside sources that the 32GB Galaxy S6 will cost 749 euros, 64GB version will set you back by 849 euros and 128GB model will be priced at 949 euros. The Edge model will cost 849 euros for 32GB, 949 euros for 64GB and 1,049 euros for 128GB variant. Both models are expected to hit the stores in early April. Mobile accessories makers have started listing their Galaxy S6 accessories on e-commerce platforms. One of the listings says the Spigen case for the device will be available on April 13.

Samsung’s next flagship smartphone is expected to feature a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display, 20MP camera, 5MP front camera, 2550mAh battery, a built-in wireless charger, and Android Lollipop. One major change is that Samsung will not rely on Qualcomm processor for its next smartphone. Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 810 processor is suffering from overheating issues. So, Samsung decided to use its own 64-bit Exynos 7420 processor in the Galaxy S6.
